Went to pick this up yesterday, Spotted it in the corner of a unit when we went to get some cheap alloys for the pickup ! Enquired about it and of course the very nice man was willing to sell at a reasonable price, Alex has taken a shine to it and decided to invest in a share We believe it was from a fire department in New Hampshire, it’s had some work but plenty to do. Sadly someone has started to put windows in the side but the at least the panels that were cut are still in the back so it’s going back to a panel van. That’s the worst bit , otherwise it’s mostly all there, it’s got an engine , bumpers , lower front panel etc. It’s 4th on the list of priorities at the moment so won’t be done anytime soon! It’s not lowered, Alex is really tall
Saw this on ebay Dunc, not sure if it's any use to you https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAG...673044?hash=item468f95d914:g:rikAAOSwAx9cBG1N
Amazing! Alex found a previous owners address in New Hampshire amongst the paperwork, went on google earth and there it is sat in the guys garden a few years ago ! Sometimes you’ve just got to love technology
Well, only 13 months since I made any progress on this but I’ve started doing an hour a day on it in the last week. Last time it saw action was moving it to the new place Started putting the original panel cuts back instead of the pop outs Alex made a start rubbing down the doors, looks like it’s had some door parts and a dash/ lower screen panel from a green donor bus at some point. It came with a new inner and outer lower front behind bumper panels, and an incorrect cab floor repair section. It’s going to need lower A post and doorsteps both sides, and the correct floor section. Getting the front and rear chassis solid enough to take the rollover jig as soon as poss to make life easier!
It came with a long block engine chucked in the back, couldn’t turn it by hand so pulled it apart to have a look. Front bearing turned like every other type1 I’ve split, also a big end gone completely and it’s on +025 shells so it’ll go in the bin! Do wish they weren’t made of chocolate
I only worked on one splitty, the steel is all thicker and welding it was a joy compared to flimsy bays.
I knew the left side would be awkward, the door was a mile off fitting when we got it. The floor and step had gone and the A post had sprung out Small repair on the top of the chassis rail first The lower hinge mount is just about still there It needed a fair bit of persuasion with the ratchet straps and all the new bits tacking in simultaneously But it’s coming together bit by bit Can get it’s chin back on next !
Well I’ve only had this 3 years but now is it’s time. No more customers vehicles to do and I’ve given myself till Christmas to get it finished!! Massive progress today, removed the front beam and gearbox with drive shafts and hubs so I could get it on the jig and spin it over. Love the easy access these things give.
