Westy fridge help, time to get it working.

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Paul2000, Aug 13, 2018.

  1. Can anyone please help with some instructions for this control panel for my Westy Electrolux/domestic fridge, or even better a suggestion of the original model number so I can trace a user guide. It’s in 1976 Westy Continental (I have also had it referred to as an Oxford?). Thanks Paul upload_2018-8-13_17-53-43.jpeg

  4. Had a real hunt through, great site but (probably due to my lack of German) couldn’t find any fridge instructions?

  5. I suspect the panel will be a different version of what I've got in my Berlin camper 295.jpg

You've got 5 controls. The square switch flips from 240V to off to 12V. The top black button is the ignitor for gas. You need to click this whilst holding in the red button for 20-30 sec. The red knob is probably the temperature control for gas and the white knob is the temperature control for mains electric operation. 12 V is only for running with the engine on on mine and there's no temperature control.

Somehow you have to look and see if the pilot light is lit and stays on if you're running on gas.

I use mine mainly on mains hook up, and that's the best way to tell if the fridge is working.

  6. Thanks Andy, I should be able to figure it out from your image and instructions. I assume the white switch is off for gas usage, or does it need 12v as well?
    Cheers

  7. Yes. Just set it at the central point when on gas. The gas is ignited by a piezo spark when you press the black button. This can be pretty tricky. Last time I used it I had to ignite the gas with a match. You still need to hold the red button in to get it going though.

  8. Thanks very much, should be able to proceed and try to get it going, planning to take it out, invert it for 24 hours then try on mains and 12 v, also need to try and find a model number (do you have one for yours?) and call Electrolux to see is asbestos is a risk?
    Cheers
