There is, its attached to the alternator or dynamo in the fan housing.

The type 4 had one on the end of the crankshaft for cooling the motor and a second electric powered fan to blow air up front (when the motor is idling)

What do you think the fan housing and tinwear is for ?

  3. Ah yes I see how it works now! I was looking for a conventional blade type fan at the front (back) of the engine! It is well hidden!!

Yup, I see it now. Feel stupid right now haha!

I've been a bit quite lately but finally finished the paint job.

Now onto putting things back together, making the interior look good and window fitting.

I've got a quote for £150 to refit all the windows although I've managed to get all the side Ones in so tempted to give the front a rear ones a go although the last time I did a windscreen I broke it... any tips?

I would like to keep my original hubcaps however they're pretty tired and do need rechroming. Quotes have been in the region of £100 each! Does anyone have any other suggestions?
I have seen cheaper repo parts for much less, such as Wolfsburg ones from coolair, these guys are less than £15 each and it's very tempting. No vw logo and instead Wolfsburg however it agrees with my budget...

Thinking about the canvas for the pop top, the one I removed is okay but since everything else is nice and shiny, I wouldn't mind having a go at replacing it. It doesn't have bellows so would be fairly straight forward, does anyone have any suggestions for the fabric?

    Many thanks

Don't buy the cheap ones, they willrust before your very eyes, have you tried cleaning up your old ones with fine wire wool and T cut

One would polish up, okay but the others are pretty far gone.

I bet 3 of those will
Polish up reasonably well, if they are genuine you will be amazed , nowt to lose by giving it a go

  8. I suppose it's worth it, but I still like the idea of having new shiny ones though...

Added some sound dampening in the form of flash band from the builders merchant. 1/5th of the price of dynomat so I thought that it would be worth a go.
Quite satisfying putting the front cab floor matting and trim back in!
Tomorrow's job is to make a start on the floor of the rest bus.

  10. Onto the interior now, we had some oak flooring left over so have used that on the floor.

Whilst I know it's a bit heavier than if I used vinyl however I like it!

Going to keep the original cabinets but get rid of the rear shelf unit in that half covers a rear window as I do not like the way you can look in from outside and see the contents of the cupboard.

I am waiting on some samples of fabrics for new roof canvas to arrive then I can decide whether I should attempt making up a new one.

  11. Cabinets are rubbed down and ready to paint, hopefully they'll look better than the varnished ply that was originally in there.

I am still trying to decide what to do with this space:

As I have removed the existing unit that half covers the rear window. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  12. Use aluminium kitchen foil rolled into a big ball and rub like mad. It feels like you are scratching them but it's all good The three will polish. It does work. I didn't believe it but it did.

  13. Samples came today for the material I am looking to use for replacing the existing canvas. Usually you order samples and get a pathetic selection whereas KaoSpruce have sent me this selection!

  14. I've a favour to ask, please can someone take a photo of their sliding door mechanism as I think I am missing something because my door doesn't lock back in the open position. There is a catch which I believe should have a spring on it - highlighted in the photo below.
I've looked at exploded diagrams and still a little unsure so a photo would be great help.
    Thanks in advance

I'd be intrigued too as mine is the same.

  17. Just take the spring out of a clothes peg and bend the arms slightly to suit, job done.

  18. Great thanks, should do the trick

Great idea but my mum got annoyed with me for breaking her pegs, after half an hour, I decided I couldn't bend the peg correctly so gave in and bought the part!

  19. My number plate is looking a bit tired so I am going to repainted it, the question is, do I keep it white/ black and yellow/black or as the bus is eligible, do I go for black and silver?
    Any thoughts?

Have been making good progress, finished the wood working stuff and will be moving onto upholstery once I have remade the pop top roof canvas.
Hopefully mum will paint the cabinets this week whilst I am working away and then at h weekend I can sort the roof.
