Drive shaft noise .? Maybe it's the rear bearing on the right side. It comes it goes.

  1. I got the click clack. No I don't need a doctor. Started today when accelerating., Going around turns more. I'm too tired to look this all up.as i normally do . Give me a break . Anyone have experience with this,, Maybe it's the rear bearing on the right side. It comes it goes.i'll put it up on blocks tomorrow ,wheels off see, what I can find. Does it ever end?

  2. Worth a quick Waggle of the drive shaft in and out to re distribute grease in the CV joints. See if that stops it for a while

  3. Tried that . It did stop . But only did it by way of inspection . Didnt know it was a temp fix ,
So its my shaft then ,?.unfortunately I'm not a temporary type of mechanic ,I like permanent
(Is that a New avatar?)thats real pretty,, ,,,,,,show off ..?

  4. It's not a temp fix, but if it stopped the noise then it probably means it's the CV joints. They can be regreased, or taken apart and inspected for damage and re greased if the balls aren't damaged or blue ish. Or you can replace the CV joints. I replaced all 4 of mine, I've kept the old ones and I think only one was properly knackered.

My avatar is my bus in 2002 when just restored, it still looks pretty good, but some paint has peeled off from the area around the perspex sun roof

  5. Strip the Cv joints and clean and repack with CV grease and they'll probably be fine

  7. Yeah lets hope. I know for sure they haven't been touched in 41 years . even when I did the motor out I left them alone just because so much else to do ., they must be bone dry. As long as I can get through a summer and not mess about I'm happy. It is a daily ,,I'll post the results just for research sake. Thanks guys

  8. If they're original German, worth stripping and greasing up. Keep the boots!

  9. What CV joints did you go with.? .The boots are fine ...,surprisingly. But I see some nightmares with some brands.

  12. I went with lobro which is apparently what was fitted originally, back in the day.

Only been on a year so I can't vouch for them. Ask me again in 20years!

well. Nothing broken cleaned off all of nasty old grease that was probably doing nothing..the cages look good. Best of all my balls are not blue.;) Guess I'll just re-packet with Grese. At least I know it's not going to blow up. But this is the passenger side left hand drive.i'll have to get to the other when I have time ,,to busy. How much grease do I slap in there.? Can I reverse the shaft.. or does it have to go back the same way.?

  18. I'm an idiot so can't tell you if you can reverse it or how much grease you need, although it def needs to be CV joint grease
I can email you the relevant section of the Idiots Guide if it would help?
Or you can wait for someone to provide a proper answer or search for one of the other cv threads

  19. i'm sure it is CV joints grease. but I have some of this multipurpose grease German make. So it'll should be good for the summer .then I'll redo the mall later. I don't think some multipurpose grease is going to hurt it. If I see it dripping out due to excessive heat. But this bus never gets over 55 mph. U

  20. do it properly now and you won't need to redo them
