Daisy's 1968 deluxe beetle full restoration

  2. Its easier to see the pinholes after the primer though as they'll show up like sore thumbs.

    I bought some Finisage stuff. I thought a 180g tube isn't going to go anywhere but i've only used about 10th of the tube on the whole shell, 3 wings, the engine lid and bonnet.
     
  3. Guide coat in filler shows up any imperfections and pin holes. If you get your filler as good as you can, it will pay off in the long run. Agreed, primer will show up your pinholes but like I said it can sink back and undo you're hard work. Spend the time before primer getting it as good as you can.

  6. Massive day today this will be painted easter !!!
    So I finished sanding and reforming the inner rear arch and complete rear quarter pannel is now level after I made a large sanding block and few guide coats to level out allso window frame and inner b pillar ready for paint also ,inner engine bay prima and complete seam seal,carpet strip welded in pass side then fitted new rear arch I picked up off eBay with rear light U it (£20) fits bob on !
    Then wire wheeled underneath rear and rust cured ,painted and seam sealed all over joints (this bug will not rust again !!!!) the passengers side is pretty much bar a nights work ..... ready for painting (upto the gutter )
    Big day made massive in roads on the body work !!

  7. Allso my daughter wanted to come help and see Lilly so helped tidy up [​IMG][​IMG][​IMG][​IMG]

  8. Loads more sanding and coat of red oxide as more of a guide coat but to be honest bar a few pin holes it looks bloody straight considering how much metal has been put in !! I'm well chuffed all this side is nearly ready for paint just gotta finish bottom of a pillar and the complete passenger side is ready for paint upto gutter [​IMG] [​IMG][​IMG]

  10. What colour are you gonna paint it?
    I tink you said somewhere back in the past 50+ pages but i'm too lazy to go looking. :p

More sanding and painting today the complete passenger side bar pin holes ect is now ready for paint allso front vallance and rear vallance allso the driver front quarter upto windshield is ready for paint just got x2 little plates to make under front top hat mount and then the complete underneath can be painted !!! It's all come together last few weeks [​IMG][​IMG][​IMG]
    Shall do a bit of a dry build next week or 2 once doors ect are sanded down

  14. It's just seem to of all come together this last few weeks all the loose ends tie up !! Hope to finish the shell (outside) before volksworld but still a lot to do

  15. Just had a few hours I welded the last of the small closing pannels underneath is now done for welding and just needs seam seal and heavy stone chipping !! Allso bolted the body down to the floorpan so I can hang the doors and wings and do a dry build and finish the read quarter pannel and then just got loads of sanding to do Iv booked all sat and Sunday on this and only a little over 2 weeks till prima and got loads of sanding to do !!![​IMG]

  19. just finished reading this from the start, very impressed.
    a shed load of great work gone into this you should be proud.
    can't wait to see it painted and the rebuild :)

Completely stripped the driver door and it was a £20 rust free job but knew it wasn't as some 1 stone chipped it but for the money took a punt and to be honest 1 hours work x3 tiny holes will need a quick skim and that's that ready for paint !! Allso fitted pass door ( for the last time ) and all good stripped al the painted on primer ready for last bit of body work on the rear driver quarter !! [​IMG][​IMG]
    Off to the pub for a few carlings now but the updates will be think and fast now #17daystill paint
