just to serve me right after all my gloating about how fab my Citroen C15 work van is, it failed the MOT :(. Good thing is under £300 to repair and MOT through. I've been given the weekend to decide whether to scrap the van, or get the work done.

I feel the fail sheet gives a fairly accurate description of my van - especially as I turned up for the test with the length of exhaust on the roof rack :)

    • Reason(s) for failure
Exhaust noise is clearly in excess of that emitted by a similar vehicle fitted with a standard silencer in average condition (7.1.4)
Exhaust has a major leak of exhaust gases (7.1.2)
Exhaust system not adequately supported (7.1.1)
nearside Side repeater not working (1.4.A.2c)
offside front brake disc in such a condition that it is seriously weakened (3.5.1i)
nearside Front constant velocity joint gaiter deteriorated to the extent that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt etc (2.5.C.1a)

New exhaust, discs and a gaitor, that's just behind with routine maintenance. I say fix.

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg How very dare you suggest that I don't do regular maintenance! In an attempt to sway the MOT man I left the little plant that's started to grow in the bonnet trim :)

I did feel that he wasn't impressed enough by my never washing the van so it looks dumped anti theft device though.

My van disappearing into the sunrise and my new little plant :)

Well, repair work ordered. I can always use it for next 6 months and then wash it, change the bonnet and flog it with 6 months mot left on.

To add to the generally delipidated look of the van the MOT man said he accidently caught it with his 7.5 tonner in the yard so has done a gaffer tape repair! :)

  13. If it makes you feel any better @Merlin Cat it's just cost me slightly shy of a grand to keep my 04 plate Merc Vito on the road for another couple of years! It's a great workhorse but when things go wrong they ain't cheap. Fond memories of my old C15.....you can probably fix the indicator by hitting hit a few times, fix the cv boot with black silicone, and bung an exhaust on it...!

I hadn't even realised the indicator didn't work or I could have tried your fix :) I think it must be the little bubble one on the side as the main ones sound like they're working.

    I still love my C15 tho :)

Suggest? I know! You're like most people including me who rely on the MOT to pinpoint what needs doing in the way of maintenance. It's a great, cheap checkup and Exactly what it's for.

  16. I agree. Now I've sorted the ABS light fault on my 2004 Polo, its up for mot next week. The Polo has the usual hard to locate, front end knocking when driving bumpy roads.

Googled it, searched forums, I've jacked up the car and given it a careful check and pry but all appears fine, so hoping the mot tester will find it.

We are really just ahead of the game Zed :)

  18. Fix it! No question. £300 for a year's use! A service on a modern car costs more than that.
