Greetings from Sheffield. :) come to techenders and you can look at people's vans and check out the good ones and the not so good ones to give you an idea of layout and things to look out for. There may even be some newer vws that you can have a look at :)

  2. Hi From West Lancashire - we had a similar budget 3 years ago when we started looking - the ones at the lower end of the budget asking around £10k were perhaps only worth £7k ( and seemed annoyed when I tried knocking them down) and the ones asking £17k I didn't even go and see. Eventually found ours just 10 miles away at just the right price ( with £500 off after haggling). Mrs cunny didn't want a LHD as she found it scary being on the wrong side!

  4. Hi and welcome.it's nice to see sombody in the same boat as I was a few weeks ago as I had that same budget and was looking for a camper to suit me the wife and kids to start our new journey, and yes we found a lovely camper so don't worry as the right 1 will come up for you.I was a bit worried thinking have I paid to much for mine but underneath is brilliant although it's had new arches doors ect 6 years ago the job looks like a good 1 as Im a mechanic by trade and weld a lot of older cars so no what I'm sort of looking for.ther are a few scabs on the body but I will sort them along the way main thing is we all love it and is quite original.definitely view some before making a choice as I viewed a couple apparently solid campers to find they were repaired but badly with silicone ect so not good at all.good luck with your search if I can i will be happy help.

  8. There seems to be a lot of negatives against owning one partly as an investment , I know you have to spend money to keep these maintained over the years but surely they're only going up in price ... A bay window wouldn't of cost 10-20k 10 years ago would it ? We realise we will have to spend to keep the condition good but we certainly don't want to lose money if we find times tough with a young family and have to sell....

There are lots of negatives as we know the reality from experience....
If you're looking at one as "an investment" first, and a bit of fun second, you'll be disappointed. Yes, it's value will go up a bit each year but at 40 odd years old you'll constantly be spending on it.
Bear in mind that there's also no guarantee the arse won't fall out of the market next week...

  10. Have you thought about renting one for a weekend away to see if you like the whole experience before you go out and spend your hard earned
You will get to see what it's all about and if you do enjoy it I think the investment side will slip down the pecking order a bit
