Electrickery........hookup etc

Discussion in 'Camper Conversions' started by Rixy, Apr 13, 2016.

  1. Hi, now re doing my interior, I have previously installed an under mount hookup socket, but have never finished the bit on the inside.

I've seen people use a consumer unit for obvious reasons? Is this just a garage consumer unit? And if so, what ratings etc do I need? Just want to run a trickle charger and a double socket or two so nothing major.

Will be running all the interior lighting and 12v sockets off the leisure battery.

I have a durite smart relay hooked up to main and leisure? So if I connect the trickle to the main charger, it will charge the leisure battery too won't it?

    Many thanks.

    Whs, Whs!!
Your leisure will take most of the hammer when camping as the alternator should look after the main.
Why not connect your charger to the leisure?

  4. So from that I'm looking at double pole breakers, and a 4mm Earth strap from Earth bar to chassis. Cool. Now I'll see what my mate has kicking about haha.

  5. It may be fine for you but, as posted previously on numerous threads on this, (some listed above by Matty) the MCBs arent double pole and therfore it doesnt actually complzy with current regs for a motorhome/caravan. Fit what you want but just letting you know in case you did want it to be compliant or indeed others were reading and wished to follow suit.

  6. Ah, I stand corrected.

So the RCD and the MCB need to be double pole for caravan regs? Tell me now as it isn't in yet!!!

  7. Im afraid so. Have a read through those links above.

  8. Just doing it now, thanks @Dicky for pointing this out before I got it installed!

  9. I wired up our van with a 16A RCBO ("earth leakage" and over-current breaker in one unit) and a single 6A double-pole (two single poles with the operating lever connected) MCB. This gives a 16A protected supply for 13A sockets plus a 6A protected supply for other things (currently just the battery charger). All with just four MCB unit widths.
