Yeah, i've given it a sanding and isn't more than 2000 miles old. Checked dizzy contacts too. Bouncing?
This can be a collection of faults. One favourite of mine is getting the timing set so it just about starts then runs with the choke on and the throttle held slightly open with the vacuum advance holding the timing up. If you pull the vacuum hose off the distributor it will slow down and stop. This should not happen. When you have the throttle plate set right there should be NO vacuum at idle on the distributor. But this will be a while following starting after the bimetallic strip has warmed up and the choke pops off when you press the throttle lever.
Looks like it was the Pertonix Ignitor 2 that broke. Swapped it out for good old points and it started right up. Still in warranty so hopefully get it swapped over. Thanks for all the help on here guys, much appreciated.
When you come to fit the replacement make sure to use lots of heat sink compound They don't like to get too hot Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
