  1. True, but i've got the panel and the time so i might as well do it properly. :p

  2. Got the drivers side finished now. Still needs a bit more filling but it'll do for now. Screwed up on the passengers side panel so will have to remake it. :(

Rear valance will need some modification to the profile along the edge as its nowhere near as sharp as the original i cut off.
Nothing a bit of hammer and dollying won't sort out though. Think i might add a speed nut on each side to hold it in place. It'll be hidden by the engine lid when its shut.

  3. Got the repair welded in to the passengers side today.

    Ground down the welds:

and gave it a coat of etch primer:

Seems to match the profile on the drivers side too. :)

    This now means that.....

THE WELDING ON THE SHELL IS NOW FINISHED!!!

  5. When i find my paint brushes i'll give it a coat of bonda primer then seam seal everything. Its had a quick coat of etch though.

  6. Good old carp quality repro panels.

Bit of bending and bashing later and it fits a bit better:

Needs a bit more work on this side but the valance seems a little bit narrow. Only by about 5mm but i'm wondering if i changed the shells dimensions a little when i did the welding on the rear end where the seal channel had rotted through.

Bolted it on anyway and it fits good enough for me.

Seal channel lines up OK on one side:

But is a little low on the other which is annoying me.

  7. Chopped the top off the old duff balljoint and gave the lower arms a coat of bonda primer.
Also finally managed to get the metal lower shock absorber bushes off the arms.

Painted the top ones a nice metallic silver to contrast the gloss black front beam.

Chucked a bit more filler on the rear 1/4 to smoothe it out a bit as it was as rough as a badgers arse.

  8. Bit more filling today and painted some more stuff silver.
Not interesting enough to take a piccy of though.

  9. LET us be the judge of that you know we like resto pics ;) it's the law and as I don't have a bug at the mo I need someone else's pics to look at [IMG]

  10. OK, i'll get some more piccies taken this afternoon, just for you.;)

Just had to buy a new TV so the bug fund has been emptied so buying ore parts will have to wait.
I did get the casters i needed in the post yesterday so i can make my bodyshell dolly to support the shell while i work on the chassis. :)

  11. Some boring piccies just for womball.;)

Sanded a few blemishes out on the roof.

Sanded and primed the dash again.

1/4 panel profile about right now.

Bit of stopper to fill the small holes.

    Filled door pillars again.

  13. It'd probably have been finished years ago if more money was available to buy the bits i needed, plus the garage fairies keep hiding my tools and parts. :(

Managed to find the replacement balljoint boot for the lower arm but can i find the clip that was most definately with it last time i saw it? Can i bugger.

  14. I'm gaining quite a tool selection that i've stolen off my father in law over the years now. ;)

Just borrowed some star bits to undo the sunroof frame so i can prep it for paint. Seems to be an alloy part as it polished up lovely with some fine sandpaper after i sanded off the scabby flaking black paint.

  15. Sanded the 1/4 panel again:

and gave it a coat of bonda primer:
Still needs a little more fettling as it looks like its got a couple of low spots still. :(

Removed the sunroof frame after undoing the dozens of bolts holding it in and the nasty sticky black goo sealing everything.

Outer frame needs sanding back to ally and a coat or two of satin black but inner frame just needs a clean.

  16. looking good not long now o_O:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

  17. Still the doors to sort out and some new hinge pins to fit but its getting to the stage that i will need to buy paint soon which is gonna be rather expensive.
Would have liked it finished for Tatton at the beginning of August but thats still looking rather unlikely. I'll settle for Stanford Hall next year.

At the very least i'd like to have it in paint before the cold and damp (more than it usually is in the summer) weather starts.

  18. Today i had a bit of a clear out in the garage and i can now actually walk around the bug without tripping over stuff. :)

Gave the A pillars a sand and a coat of bonda primer.

Cleared out all the rubbish from the inside of the car:
Needs the dust hoovering out but at least its not got piles of offcuts of steel, bald sandpaper and other trash in there.

Also found this repair i did a 7 years ago.
Not happy with it at all so its getting cut back out again to be replaced with a bit that should look like it did when it left the factory.
