The less fuel you have in the tank, the less energy you need to drag it up hills and the less brake wear you need to stop it. Four quid is about enough to get from one filling station to the next so it is the most economical way to drive. This woman is conserving the planet's oil reserves so that we gas guzzlers can enjoy our hobby. I hope you thanked her!

  8. After almost 300,000 miles the trusty old 944S broke a piston ring.
That was a while back and after two months of wobbling around in a Citroen C3 loaner,
It is returned, re-built and ready for the next quarter of a million miles.

Things I have learned; Citroens are cheap for a reason. And they wobble far more than is decent.
Porsche engine rebuilds are ludicrously expensive. My example of an 'S' appears to have come from the factory with a .48mm overbore giving 2503cc.
+.48 piston rings are only available from Stuttgart and they cost three times as much as an ordinary one.

  10. Fun day out today!

Took the fair lady wife out to buy mothers day gifts and all went wrong.

Despite being serviced on Wednesday and manky old fuel pipes replaced, today we had a bit of a rare ftp when crap lodged itself in the new fuel pipes and we came to a gentle rest on a rather awkward bend. It gave us a first chance to test out the super cheap (£40) Auto Aid recovery service.

Burrows turned up within the hour, checked for spark & fuel & then took us home.

No drama's, but the fair Lady Fishtrousers was less than impressed with either me, the car or my garage of choice.

Normal service will be resumed next week.

  14. In shocking news, with two new front tyres, the three hundred pound XJ-8 has just passed its MOT!

    For those about to waft.

  15. I have decided to turn my Golf GTi-TDI PD150 into a novice track car and buy a tow/work vehicle. I have already bought an uprated suspension kit and bushes, also braided brake hoses and performance brakes for all four corners.
I have yet to buy uprated ARB's front and rear. Long way to go but when I get better knowledge of track days I shall go all out and heave a cage fitted and make it lighter. Sure there will be plenty I need to learn.

  17. Ta, I will shortly be shaving my beard to leave just a mustosh and purchasing a blazer/cravat combo, then I shall waft and pick up the local skirt in my Shaguar.

  18. Exciting insurance renewal news; Admiral multicar came up with;
    '87 Scirocco - £134.69, '87 Porsche - £117.23! & '98 Jaguar - £205.71 - total - £457.63
All with SDP & commuting and a £250 Excess.
I didn't consider that too shabby and as they offered agreed value of £6,000 on the 944 for an extra tenner, I'll let them quote for the bay next year. It's current insurer; Carol Nash are a totally disorganised shower of sh1te that I've had to chase repeatedly for three months before finally getting confirmation of agreed value.

Did the jag only cost £300? Top bargain.

I still like Carole Nash! Are all your cars due renewal at the same time? All mine seem to be in different months so I never go for multi car.
