I am tidying up the van a bit. The previous owner stuck the interior side trim panel behind the drivers side to the wall using some type of silicon type glue
I now know why. It's because the holes in the card are about a inch out of line . I thought maybe the panel has had the wrong side trimmed but if I put it on back to front it's nearer but no cigar .
Is this a common problem ; could it be a card from a different year or something else
The cards only look cheap hardboard covered with horrible cheap vinyl.
Is there a knack to measuring up the holes and re drilling the card . Is there a template with measurements available or is it a case of measure twice drill once- hopefully .
I dint fancy screwing through the cards to the metal .bit I don't mind taking the upholstery off and re fitting it
    Thanks

The clips sit offset on most of the holes, it seems like they are miles off but you have to get the angles right, it's hard to explain but it just requires perseverance

  3. You could use some silicon type glue to stick it on.

I think they are out by more than the length of the clips though .
I only have the one clip . And I've dropped that somewhere in the van so I've packed up for the night . I have 7mm holes in the side wall (I've seen that question asked on this topic elsewhere ).
I found the clip under the passengers seat. I think it is an original one .

If you put a card with no vinyl trim on up against a door you wouldn't see any of the holes in the metal door through the holes in the card, the clips all radiate outwards from the centre of the door

  6. Rotate the clips in the holes until they line up. They will fit........but not until you've lost your patience and all the skin on your knuckles by fishing behind the panel to get the angle right. Then, make sure it is in the centre of the hung and push it in.

Imagine the clips pull from the centre of the panel outwards because that is how they are designed - to stop the panel shrinking or wrinkling up. Put the clips on like that and you'll be very close.

    :hattip:

  8. If only I'd known this when I was installing mine - maybe I wouldn't have broken or lost so many clips... Or my temper.

Update re the problems . Thanks for all the great advice . But my head was sore with scratching . Then I had a light bulb moment and it sussed the problem.
THE CARD HAD BEEN UPHOLSTERED ON THE WRONG SIDE.
So I took off the vinyl. Replaced it correctly with new padding. Followed the instructions above then it was a breeze .looks 10 times better . Got the clips of eBay from a mgb fan as advised elsewhe on here 10 for 3.50 I think so no scene tax . Jobs a gud Un
