Original seats - swap for Saab etc

Discussion in 'Late Bay Parts Classifieds' started by rbilling776, Feb 10, 2016.

  1. I have two original seats, in good condition, that I would like to swap with Saab, MGF or similar. I need something with more support as I am currently suffering with a slipped disk.

They would ideally need to be cream or tan and would fit my '72 crossover.

One other thing is that I need to still be able to mount our front cab hammock, so the headrests would need to be removeable and they would need to fold to leave clearance.

    Any takers?

Sorry, this is the only photo I have to hand. I'll get some more asap

You didn't want Saab seats, they're far too high.

I have saab seats in mine, they are high but I find them fine, much more comfortable than the originals. If you have short legs you'll struggle, I'm 6' 4" so height isn't an issue.

If you need me to measure anything let me know. Mine are fixed, so no adjustment. With runners they'd be for too high.

You must have to lean forward to drive it?
I'm only 6'2" and if I sat normally I looked at the sun visors if looking forward and above the tops of the doors if I looked to the side. Comfortable but in no way suitable in a bus imho.

Edit. Mine had runners and as the MOT now says seats should be adjustable I'd recommend using runners in whatever you fit.

Not had that problem to be honest. I did butcher the bottom of the seats quite badly though to get them to sit as low as possible.
I'll take a measurement next time I'm at the bus.

  6. We had some lovely comfortable black leather Saab's in our bus but even at only 6'0" I was looking through very top of windscreen and SWMBO couldn't reach the pedals even though she's 5'5". We did mount them over the welded in runners to avoid cutting original out. Now changed for new Newton Commercials - best of all worlds and they make a fantastic job of them - not cheap but the bees-knees.

  7. I've got a pair of light grey leather saab seats. They arnt mint but I'm after £40 the pair

The rule is that if it has runners they should work properly. No runners is ok.

    Me too.
I'm sitting on an original like yours right now and I find it's just the thing.

I don't like car seats in vans. They are designed for sitting much lower compared to the floor with you legs out in front of you and tend to be tipped back. I can't sit on my RR bed at the mo because it's slightly tipped back, it buggers my herniated disc.

  11. I love my cab seats too, nothing like a spring up the rear to keep you alert

  12. Thanks for all the responses - maybe Saab is not the way forward - I'm 6'3.

Not quite sure what to do now? :)

I'm 6 ft and skinny. @rickyrooo1 used to have these very seats and didn't find them comfortable IIRC, but he's 6'3 or 4 and quite, what's the word...

  16. We've got Saab seats in our '73 Bay and my partner can't reach the pedals, I can manage but to be honest I could do with something lower.

Where in the world are you. My van is in essex if you ever wanted to take a look.

  20. Thank you :) I'm only in Potters Bar, so that could be a good idea!

However, I've taken the jump - a pair of Saab seats are bought! Going to pick them up tomorrow, so might be back on here asking how to mount them!

Also, all being well the original seats will be up for sale soon :)
