Blower wire and stuff

  1. Brilliant thanks MarcT512 I'll look in the morning. Not sure why someone's messed with it though?

  2. I suspect your mechanic removed the fan for better access (I do with mine, all the time).
He probably missed the stubby wire on the motor itself when putting it back (or someone else put it back together) - and thus the two left over wires were joined together...

  3. Could be as he was doing the clutch, if it was him.

  5. Thanks mate but I beat you to it, those would have helped.
I connected my yellow and black together then connected the brown and white to terminal 31 on the relay. I also re connected the blue wire to terminal A on the relay. The blue was stripped and hanging?
    Thanks all its now working.

  6. Spot on mate, all fixed. Re connected the yellow and black together, then re connected the brown and white into terminal 31., All working now. Cheers

  7. Since re connecting the heat exchangers and allowing them to open, I'm getting an acrid smell in the bus? Also I'm not feeling any air being blown through even after fixing the blower? I'm guessing I'll have to fit new pipes and check for leaks then:rolleyes: what's with the acrid eye watering fumes/smell, old age dirt or something else?

Dust dirt oil mould age damp, gets better after a while, where are you feeling for air blowing through? Demist only comes out of the two middle dash top vents, when screen is steamed up it starts with four dots of clear and eventually spreads usually just about when you reach your destination :D

  9. Ha ha brilliant. Where else should I be feeling it? I have a centre pipe as mine is a mini bus set up but I have blocked that off!

Vents near your feet when the levers the other way, is all the plastic pipework joined up properly behind the dash and are your cables connected?

  11. Sorted the cables out the other day. I'll have to check the vents by my feet, I was feeling up by the dash, does anything come out there apart from the fresh air vent?

I think the long slots and the side vents are just fresh air

  13. Ok cool I'll check the feet ones in the week. I was worried the eye watering smell was carbon monoxide!

I wouldn't rule it out, how good are your heat exchangers, unless you've had them off and tested the manifolds I don't suppose anyone can be sure!

  15. I'll check them out!

    Melting wiring?
    Overheating fan?
    Battery boiling?

    All make such smells. :)

  17. Ha ha thanks Zed that's very reassuring! No it's definitely from the heaters when they're off its fine, no wire smells I've had enough of those to recognise it. It's probably 20 odd years of oil dirt and rats stuff.

  18. Well since sorting the van, NO air blows through the vents at a stand still? I can feel that just past the heat exchanger flaps this part of the pipes war, up, but no further? I am missing a thermostat but either way I cannot feel anything being blown through the foot vents. Looks like a heating resto in the summer!

  19. There should be a gentle waft from the engine fan at idle, maybe hard to feel. The snail fan won't work until you turn it on ;)

I don't have an engine hatch and that fan and the ducting would be right in the way so I've just ordered a 4cu m/sec 4A 12v 75mm bilge blower for £15.
I'm thinking I'll fit the stove pipes and block them in the engine bay rather than have to block up holes in both heat exchangers and tinware.
I thought to give it the best chance of not melting I'd stick it up the front somewhere.
@Top Banana Racing has similar I think. Has it melted yet matey?
