dam: i was going to buy one as well.. spray all the bits that could leak air with wd while the engine is ticking over and spray the dizzy for good measure .... What you really need is for the misfire to be more regular ,just keep driving until it does...
Was considering buying one of these but went into Accusparc that is based near me earlier today and decided to just buy a new electronic ignition kit for my Bosch 009 Distributor for £29.95 instead.
Looks like that may well be the problem with Cyril. Was a very hot day, maybe 37C, & you know how electronics hate heat... Anyway there is almost nothing else to logically replace and the guys at Accusparc were great.
well if its not the dizzy, you won't need it. if you want i could fit it to mine just to see if its working ok..........................i know, not helping. i'm off
If the carbs get it on a good old fashioned rolling road and get them set up correctly. Will costs you less than that Dizzy did. Isn't there one near Bristol that is probably not far from you?
Timing IS more settled, you can feel it. Can't find an air leak unless it's inside the HX? But I thought I would have smelt it? I guess it's possible that the exhaust gasket is leaking and I can't hear it but the nuts are all VFT. I'm going to change the HX's at the weekend now as it's raining.
when you replaced the HXs did you anneal the copper gaskets? I'm only asking because neither did I and after 300 miles since replacing I now have popping etc starting again. Probably won't have opportunity to take them off in near future but will do this over the winter.
I'm narrowing it down. Doesn't occur when engine is stone cold. Starts about 2 mins after startup. In order of severity. 1. On the overun nearly every time and more pronounced. Approx once every 300 yds. Sometimes a 'chuff', sometimes a proper 'shotgun' job. 2. At tickover, randomly maybe once a minute then three times then nothing for 5 mins. Usually just a chuff, very occasionally a proper bang. 3. Acceleration and cruising, no real issue. (or I can't hear it over the intake roar!)
