There's a vintage vehicle restoration and repair centre near Inverness that I have just discovered. They do MOTs too! I think from now on, after fitting this Dizzy, I will just use them all the time! MOTs up next month... No work done last year and no advisories last year... Wonder how she will fair this year
I'm just looking forward now to getting this part fitted and putting an end to the popping! I've been told that this part will stop the popping so fingers crossed
As said previously, it's unlikely a new dizzy is going to stop popping. Popping is likely to be caused by an air leak, as I'm sure people have said on this thread several times.... I hope I'm proved wrong!
Was 20 ish minutes for me to change to electwanix on my Type 4, though some have been known to say I'm a numpty!
Is this the part you mean? http://www.justkampers.com/n0203535-vacuum-hose-3-5mm-diameter-sold-per-1-2-meter.html
I was a bit bored but then I though, "tune into the thread that just keeps giving". Whereabouts exactly are you in Scotland? I lived up in the highlands for eight years and I certainly didn't have a big choice of garages. If you've found one that actually knows about VW's I'd treasure him and buy him coffee and cakes. I certainly wouldn't take my van to yet another garage just because he can't fit my van in for three days because he's busy fixing my car.
I'm in Dornoch, Sutherland. Its not that I couldn't wait... Colin just doesn't seem keen to take the van back again! I think he's just sick of the sight of it though haha
Ahh, not a million miles from where I was then. A most beautiful part of the country. Is Colin a proper trading garage? If so I can't see why he wouldn't want your van back. I've gone through a few welder type people who now run away when they see me coming but engine stuff is just ordinary garage type stuff.
Your garage was a little bit bigger than a bay would need Anyway, heres the last one you tinkered with, it got wet these don't need a garage, they need a GARAGE
this video runs for 21 minutes...he talks veeerrry veeerrryy slllooooooowwwly....it takes ten nimutes if that....no additional parts needed if you've no timing scale and can use a ruler, you're good to go
Carbs....worth sending the above link to Colin, if he's not had much experience with twin Solex carbs...principles are the same for different models/years He won't be insulted...he's a mechanic To remove, strip, clean, rebuild and refit a pair of these will take a good, conscientious mechanic at least three hours, including slurping Tea and fag breaks in the vid, he spends some time setting the gaps between the throttle plate (round brass thing) and the carb body.....both carbs will need to be done identically....this is critical to smooth idle and all subsequent adjustments to fuel/air mixture
As you well know the subsequent board of enquiry absolved me of almost all responsibility and said it wasn't really all my fault and they only put me in military prison for a few years.
