Us and @MK-Bay went to this site on the early May bank holiday. http://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/campsites/uk/cambridgeshire/ely/meadowviewcampsite It's advertised as Camping & Caravan Club but Peter, the owner, doesn't enforce it. It cost us £15 a night with electric. It's quite a small site with perfectly acceptable toilets and the showers are free. Plenty of space for the dogs to run free and no one tutted at us. Straight out the back of the site is Cycle path No 11 which leads handily to the very nice pub in Wicken village about 5 mins away by bike. Also 5 mins away is a working windmill which sells its flour and Wicken Fen, a National Trust nature reserve. http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/wicken-fen/ There's a beer festival on next weekend (9th 10th May) so we've booked into the campsite Friday and Saturday night.
Sunday morning was a bit wet so we all trooped off into Ely for the Eel festival of food and drink. The food festival was so popular that even the Ducks were bringing the kids.
Monday, after a very leisurely wake up we biked off into Wicken Fen And very nice it was too. We saw a kestrel swoop and attack a rat, no pictures of that I'm afraid, it was over in a flash.
Good little campsite @sANDYbAY found there, so thanks again for taking the time to find it and book us in. Good fun cycling to the local pub... ...the staff there judged the colouring competition... a certain sANDYbAY was most peeved to be beaten by a two-and-a-half year old, but Amelia seemed quite pleased!: ... and they didn't even mind when the children (aka Bob and Amelia) had an impromptu 'soggy tissue' fight! Not sure who won, so I think we'll call that one a draw! The campsite has provision for wet weather: ... but the rain didn't last long so we ended the weekend with another bike ride, to Wicken Fen, and enjoyed a few hours in the sun! More piccies to follow, but I have to wait for Mrs MK Bay to get home before I can download them from her phone!
I'll accept that she beat me fair and square in the colouring in competition but the soggy tissue fight was definately mine, I got at least a dozen full face hits in and she only scored a couple of face hits on me. Oh by the way Andrew, the police were on the site Monday, they were asking about suspicious people onsite. Something about metal theft?
Tell Jan that I won't say anything about "mugs" if you don't mention the angle iron! Oops... what angle iron? I'll deny everything!
I love that picture of Amelia in the pub, it makes me smile when I see it. She is such a lovely little girl.
