Chilli, The funky green chillin' machine!

  1. from the picture it looks like a front hinged ie a early type westy roof, rather than the late/rear hinged like a berlin.

  2. Just asked SGS what the Force for the Westfalia strut is and they have stated 350N

Managed to get most of the missing tinwear from Top Banana Racing (cheers). Engine is now stripped down to a crankcase. The heat exchangers are toast and so are the carbs! One head is good but the other has a sunken valve and the matching tappet screw was mushroomed, barrels don't look too bad. Just gotta split the crankcase now but will first have to clear some space in the workshop. Hardly any endfloat so let hope its all good inside.

Had a big box from Bilt Hamber full of their ace waxy-oily stuff...so started to squirt it into all the nooks and crannies....seems to be really good stuff and im absolutely covered in it so hopefully i wont rust either! i used the s-50 where its hidden and then the clear wax in places like behind the headlights and the front grill. im going to use soundproofer in the doors etc so will give him another dosing when thats all fitted and before the door cards go on.

front end gets new lights, aerial and washers. Bought some 'best quality' headlight rims but i think the suppliers must have mixed them up with the Marmite ones! polised up the original rims and they are much better!

I found all the old glass but it seems an angle grinder has f*cked up the lhs front wind-up window and the windscreen is scrap! Anyone tried polishing grinder marks out of glass and what are the heated screens like? Anyhoo, the rear screen has these cool stickers on so will try to keep them.

I know our van should have the green covers but we really liked the blue covers when we seen them...and it is our van!

Waiting on parts to come back from the powder coater so we can crack on with the seats, dash and the windows.

Also need to decide on interior. We like the layout of the berlin but the finish is 'orrid! Im thinking of recreating it in maybe oak or cherry vyneered ply or similar..

    Engine needs building too!

  19. This is looking great :)

We went the same way with our interior, re-created from the original units in better quality materials, walnut in our case, although we've not done the full units yet.
