We finally got over our recent busy spell and decided techenders was worth wasting a weekend for and headed over on Saturday lunch time. She is quite thirsty at speeds above 55 and even though I had half a tank I decided to put another £15 worth in for the 65 mile journey home via Neil's house in Coventry. Once home we had used the best part of £35 worth of diesel to do just 140 miles. I noticed the fuel gauge going down when bombing it up the two mile long Corley bank. I was doing over sixty though, and she does weigh close on 3 tonnes. My guess is.The Luton top is a big windbreak and the faster you go the more air you have to force it through, thus reducing mpg considerably.

The mpg thing was on my mind all weekend after we set up camp and were doing the stately home tour thing. I may have seemed a little preoccupied, but the mpg is important to my future camping plans, I don't want to spend the rest of my camping life pootling along welsh roads at 40 mph just so as we can afford to go camping. So I need to sort out the fuel thing toute de suite. Either live with it or go gas,

Any way, it was a good weekend and yes we were warm and snug on Saturday night. Even though I had neglected to switch the zig unit over the split charger for the last three trips out and had run the leisure battery down. That switch was flicked for the homeward journey and the LB was fully charged when we got home on Sunday night. On Saturday night we simply had the cooker on for a while, Which was enough to keep the chill off in the ultra insulated and double glazed behemoth that we call our camper.

It was nice to meet everyone again. Even if you all drink too much!

  6. Fuel is my biggest expense when I go off in the van ,staying in no campsites saves a bomb ,suppose it is harder in England...

But I just put it in (like the landy) and don't worry cos you need it ,like milk etc...

Only thing that would put me off a big camper is the wife wanting to come...:D

  11. it's quite involved converting a diesel to LPG, as the heads will need reworking and the compression would need to be reduced. Personally, I reckon the costs involved wouldn't justify the savings in fuel. Swapping the diesel out for a petrol would make more sense, as it's be a straightforward conversion to proper duel fuel, plus you'd recoup some of the expense by flogging the original lump....if you went for the 2 litre, you'd probably need to change the box as well

  12. If its diesel will it run on cooking oil?

She loves to camp in her. When she wants to. She won't camp in her when we all want to! Says it's the best camper we have ever owned etc. Maddening is the word!
