  1. Cheers Malc, glad it's helping a bit.

You should do a doka next. Little things like the fuel tank having to be removed from the back of the crew cab bench seat locker, and the difference in battery trays and rear panels would help a lot.

While I am on I might as well update it a bit.

I have now fitted inner sills on nearside, made outer sill from a splitty one and fitted them. And found the rear jacking point too far gone to salvage, same with the rear outrigger. I have an outrigger, but have to source a jacking point.

Today I am fabricating a ns battery tray as they are different to standard. It is partly welded in and I will finish it later. I also found a heap more rot in the arch than I thought, so I may be On that area longer than planned. Pictures will be posted at some point in the future as I am still having trouble with computers. The welding is effective, but not yet up to the superior standards of TLB.

  6. I got a plasma cutter for Christmas and have so far chopped out all of the rot from the drop sides. there's not much left now :D I hate rust more!

Is it an hand held one? I have seen the fixed one's, but not an hand held one.

  8. yeah, it's an inverter type thing. with a hand held torch. great bit of kit if you're fabricating a load of bits. keeps the neighbours happy too. it hisses rather than the RAAAAAAAARHH! racket the grinder makes :)

Rush posting! I just came across it but didn't have time post properly so dumped it in your thread! It looks quite helpful at a glance and I learned a few things too. :)

Went out to try and sort my bad welds from yesterday and realised I had run out of gas again. There is either a problem with the machine or the news valve. I shouldn't be using this much gas at 7 bar.

So yesterday's bad welds were because of no gas.

And the day before maybe because you have tyhe gas turned up too high. 7 bar? eek!
A slight hiss is all you need. Try turning it down a bit when you get some more. I use a hobby bottle and would have no problem restoring a whole bus or more with one bottle. Houston, we have a problem.

I read on a welding forum that it should be set at 7 on the gauge. So that is probably the problem. Thanks again Steve.

7 ltrs/min? Sounds familiar. Must be a leak. No idea what mine is set too. Being a tight wad I start too low and turn it up until it welds nicely. :)

I made sure there were no leaks and tested it. Ok have turned it off at the bottle religiously after each use as I suspected a leak last time. 9lb of gas gone?

I didn't mean to write bar. I couldn't think of the measure and was thinking bar not meaning it. Soz

Maybe you have a leak inside the torch hose?
I had a duff bottle once that leaked from the tap, but I guess this is a different bottle to your first one i.e. exchange, not fill-up?

Possibly. Or they short changed me with the £25 fill. How do I check the hose for leaks I wonder?

The morning wasn't wasted. I ground the new 2nd hand engine bar and resprayed it.

  19. in general the gauges are not really acurate ....get a flow gauge ..you know the glass tube type with a ball than floats up and down depending on your flow ......... too much gas is as bad as no gas ...
