What will cut glass and wood together ?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by 3901mick, Nov 14, 2014.

  1. Here is my problem. The flexi pipe to our sink is knackered the inner rubber has gone hard and the metal braid has started going rusty.

The bath tap has the same fitting :(

The bath panel is unfortunately a solid mdf style one that has been tiled up to.

How can I cut the panel close to the wall in the hope of re using it.

I may be wasting my time as the flexi to the bath may be ok. As it is the same age as the sink one I don't want to take a chance.

What will cut mdf and glass. I was thinking some form of angle grinder disc ??

    Thanks

Here is a photo of the panel !!!

How about a dremel blade through the glass then saw through the mdf with a jigsaw. Or maybe you can get jigsaw blades for both?

  3. I like the dremel idea on the glass :), I don't think the jigsaw will get close enough to the edge to save the panel. If i can't save it I will have to buy a new one. I would rather not though if I can help it as I have better things I could spend £40 - £50 on

I'd be inclined to use one of these for the panel. The glass my be harder to cut through but ask the tool people if they have an attachment. If not, score it first and take a deep breath......

  6. That is probably how I will do it knowing my patience

  7. That's not easy but I'd use a 41/2" diamond disc and then a Fein tool with a tile cutting blade to finish the ends, then the wood blade to cut through the mdf.
    Take care!

  14. I think you'll make a pig's ear of it with a cutting disc as it looks too close to the arcitrave to get a decent angle on it....if you've some spare tiles it'd be far easier/less hassle to chip these off and replace....or trim the tiles back just enough to remove the panel, and use some make-up trim to conceal the gap once reinstalled....

  15. I have some spare tiles but god knows where. The one in the picture is the on that would need to come off but I fear it would break as it is cut round the bath.

  16. I can't remember what holds it Barney. I wish I knew where the spare tiles are. I found the kitchen ones. They are black though :(

  17. go and have a look for the spare tiles......;)

  18. You have no idea how messy I am or how much crap I have, they could be anywhere. Not only do I have all my storage filled up, I am doing quite a good job on my Mums lol

  19. Put it off for a few weeks and sit down with a few beers.
It's good to get a bit of perspective on these sort of jobs. :)

  20. Best suggestion so far. Many thanks :) Bloody pipe will probably split 30 minutes before I start it, whenever that is anyway lol
