I'm one of them blokes who is getting tired of hearing fireworks going off for two weeks before Bonfire night, it drives me and my dogs up the wall I don't want to be a kill joy but I think only organised events should be able to let them off, either on the night or the nearest weekend to it. This is our local Bonfire it's in the field behind our local boozer and is run by our local scouts, so it's also for a good cause what's your local Bonfire like
I agree, organised events only. Every year over 1000 people are killed or injured, 90% at "home" events. It defies all logic to sell explosives to be used by the untrained every year with the above result. My foreign friends find it incredulous that we do this.
Any local bonfires assembled round here more than a day before bonfire night always seem to get torched. Heard the first few fireworks here last night.
There is usually a few good organised ones round here but at the same time, there are equally as many back garden ones. Our cats hate fireworks, even with the curtains closed they hide upstairs out of the way. Properly organised ones for a good cause is the way to go
If you don't like fireworks all the time DON'T move to Luton (or other Asian areas) for they use them at nearly all events or it was terrorists training most weekends when we were there.
Heard first firework this morning - yes at 9am GMT - stupid air burst one - dogs jumped nearly out of their skins! At least it is better than 10 years ago when they were going off for a month before. Having said that we loved them as kids - setting them off all over the place and none left for the 5th!
I only use to buy the large mutishot ones that went bang very very loud. They go good on a bonfire as well as free standing.
they are trusting with that bonfire, that would have been lit in the night by kids round here. we have beeen to vet about poppy - she is scared to death of fireworks shaking like mad and running round weeing she's that scared, it should be one night only, not haloween and christmas/new year plus 2 weeks either side of fireworks night.
That's fine but our lad is only just five and going to organised events, which start late in the evening is a nightmare. Hence we have our own in the back garden, several of his friends the same age come along, including a family who own a farm and can't have fireworks at home. We have a dog and she sits in my office at the other side of the house so as far away from the action as she can be, she sits in there with me during the day so is used to being in there, and we inform the neighbours so as to ensure they can make sure they don't have their pets, if any, out when we are letting them off. I let the fireworks off, appropriately bought for the size of our garden, and take all the sensible precautions like buckets of water/hose ready and not returning if doesn't go off. I'd like to think if I could be trusted with guns, ammunition etc in the navy then as along as i follow the firework code then there shouldn't be a problem, I'm also supervised by a father who is an above water warfare specialist so like to think between us the possibility of an accident is relatively low. I can only imagine that people buy the wrong fireworks for the size of location and don't take sensible precautions. Generally I like to live and let live, and in any case our dog is reasonably OK with firework noises as long as they are distant, however the neighbours did incur my wrath when unannounced they let fireworks off at 10.15 one evening, they shot over our garden and I had just let our dog out, she was pretty scared by the whole event. Thank fully living in pretty rural area we don't have too much of a problem with two weeks of random fireworks, but who knows this year could be different.
I think we should sell arc welding rods to the local k as sparklers None of that burnt fingers in bandages the next day malarky...
Should we remove all motorbikes from sale because a few do not use them in a safe and correct manner? If dicks play stupid with fireworks and get burnt well one less dick walking.
I agree with this. I also think all warnings about suffocation should be removed from plastic bags as well as " contents may be hot "warnings from takeaway cups. Let natural selection have a chance.
I was the same as a kid and I can imagine the nuisance we made but we only had little bangers, nowadays they have massive repeating airbombs that are really loud
I've had a few near misses doing the local bonfire over the last couple of years, rocket tubes falling over and rocket missing me and my mate by inches then bouncing off the gable end of the nearest house, those big multi shot things that say on the instructions bury 2/3 deep in soft earth, that's not to stop them falling over its to stop the outer ones blowing out the sides instead of the top! Scattered the crowd with that one Decided to let other more competent people take over this year, I'll just watch from the bedroom window, fortunately the dog is not bothered at all by fireworks .
