This is getting a bit like Groundhog Day New panel ready Monday or Tuesday - pressed and being finished. Hmmmm
This is still going on folks - but at least it is going on ....... New outriggers and jacking points Pretty much new everything .... [/URL
If you have access to FB look for '81a VW services' and weep with me Two new doors ordered yesterday .....
I think it should be titled 'Another cautionary tale' Alan - there was even a bit of metal buried in the filler in one of the wheel arches
It's nearly all metal now so you never know. Did you see the video of the front deformation panel being hit with a hammer ?
I saw the pictures and was tempted myself. It did look pretty nice apart from a couple of small blisters here and there. Did you pick up on any of this stuff when you went down to view it? I suppose your being extra critical as well while it's in the shop, no point doing it piecemeal now.
I was expecting some work but the thickness of filler in some places has been a bit scary. When the filler has cracked it's pretty much meant a new panel so up the flatbed we now have nearly all new metal. I thought we were looking at bottom 6". John at 81a wasn't expecting it to be this bad It will be pretty solid when I get it back though
I'm going to start a new thread myself......"Things I have built while you're in Resto" It'll be well worth it long term Keep writing the cheques
You should have just driven it Bern, it was fine before you and your agents prodded! Nice to have you back for a few mnutes, but like many on here I don't FB, so see you in 6 months when you update again.
We'll both be ready for a special display at Tatton next year Bern! Along with a few others, there wasn't nearly enough pickups there this year, especially bays.
I'll probably drop by more regularly than that Steve, It all started with needing new seatbelt mounts .....
Hmm. It always starts somewhere and you can't weld to rust ... well you can, but you shouldn't. It can be difficult to find somewhere to stop before you've been right round and are back to where you started.
I think it had to be done once the first bit of filler had been dug out. The good news is that the panel that we waited forever for is a really good fit. And the cab roof seems solid enough
hello bern glad to see you back even briefly? i'm shocked the van was that bad - looked nice, i don't do facebook so hadn't seen any, bet you want to give the seller a bit of a kicking.
