Last weekend, me and my brother in law headed off to Wolfsburg to visit the Museum and the Auto Stat We booked the ferry a few months back and just headed off with a tent and some clean smalls in the boot We set off Thursday night about 2330 and headed down to dover for the 0640 crossing to calais Landing in France about 0930 we set off on the 500 mile trip to Wolfsburg hoping to arrive around tea time at the campsite by the Autostat, a few traffic jams and a smash on the autobahn about 100kms from Wolfsburg meant we finally arrived at 1930, 10hrs later Saturday saw us visit the Autostat and have a nose round the city Sunday we spent at the museum then headed back towards Belgium where planned to kip for the night before reaching calais for the monday lunchtime ferry back, but since we made such good time on the way back we managed to make to Calais late Sunday night for the midnight crossing Anyway enough dribble, we had a cracking time and took plenty of pics Here's some of the trip and the museum and the link to the rest on photo bucket
This was the chariot all packed up ready to go, 1989 mk2 Golf 16v Dover The wait Unloading at Calais Welcome to Germany Quality German place names 58km to go
Some pics of the skyline of the city, dominated by the towers of the old factory and the new glass towers at the autostat not the easiest thing taking pics from a moving Golf
We set up camp and decided to head in to the city for some food and a beer before bed The plan was just to have 1 beer, we didn't really manage to stick too that idea
Saturday saw us struggling to recover from the night before (me especially) so we headed off to the autostat which the bro in law has the pics of Sunday morning we where up bright and early packed up camp and headed off to the museum
So on to the main pics The passage up to museum gave details of the history of VW At the main doors an early beetle dash greeted us Then we went in, and what a sight to behold - Dubs everywhere
The main feature of the museum at the moment is celebrating 40 years of the Golf The bro in law (golf nut) on his knees having a little pray to the Dub Gods 7 faces of the Golf 1&2 3&4 5 6&7
So i'll just let the pics do the talking Milestone cars 20,000,000th Beetle 50,000,000th Volkswagen 10,000,000 Golf 30,000,000 Golf Last Mk2 Golf Produced in Mexico

smashing, shame didn't know when you went you could have asked em about my Birth Certificate for my bus I applied for...
Dover's 240 miles from us, in all we did just short 1600miles in just over 3 days and the Golf never missed a beat apart from needing a couple of top ups of water
I went last year and it was brilliant. The old museum was my favourite bit. Looks like you had a busy weekend
Quite fancy doing Bad Camberg vw show next year (or European Bug In) with a trip to Wolfsburg added on. Looking at 2000+ miles over the week though. The convoy to B C with BBT in Belgium and a look round their museum sounds pretty good too.
