I know it's been covered, but I'm very keen on doing a Scooby conversion. Is that better?

Do you think they're out of balance when fitted horizontally?

i dont think so but theres got to be a reason why they have broke
{maybe a stick rock etc as got up there somehow , there is a bout a inch where the fan over hangs the rad a bit
    i would have thought due to them being horizontal there would be less weight on the bearings {im just guessing here}
the 400 fan fitted next to it looks a sounds fine

does anybody thinks it makes a differnce if the rad is slopped or flat

With a scoop I can't see it making that much difference but if its easy enough to do I'd probably have the back end slightly lower.

i was just thinking as its all apart i could have a play

  7. My god....... I haven't checked in for a while! Nice to see my original post is still going strong!
Just thought I add that my donor Scooby is still for sale in the "non VW" section if anyone is inspired !!! :)

  8. picking mine up at the weekend - anyone know what the deal is with the 'upper gearbox mount'? Is this something I need to replace/modify?
    :)

  9. I would imagine that you've just got some debris in there. You would think that sloped would be better. I was looking at high output fans at the weekend and found ones that have the blades angled in such a way that you can reverse the motor so it either sucks or blows. I was thinking to maybe attach one to either side of the rad, having one that blows under normal circumstances and the other either cutting in automatically or manually depending on ambient and engine temperature. Ideally i'd like to get the rad flat under the floor beneath the chassis rails, the doka is quite low and the front number plate sometimes fouls the ground so i'd be worried about having too acute an angle on the rad

    I don't think you'll need a blower ;-)
Mine are both suckers and they only really come on if I'm at a standstill for any length of time.

i would be more worried about your sump if your plates that low

if you have a fan on each side are they not fighting each other

  12. one sucks one blows. I'm going to fit the shortened sump if needs be, i'm thinking i'll need to
    :)

the one blowing may be in the way for clean air to reach the rad

You'll need a shortened sump. Especially if your bus is lowered.

Presumably you'd fit one each side of the rad, one at each end?
Wouldnt this mean when either was working, theyd only be 50% efficient as theyd only cover half the rad?
Personally, I'd sack that off and go for 2 suckers.

  16. Depending on the size of the rad is opt for one each side of the rad. It still needs some angle and a channel I have forced air and the low pressure side to draw the air through, can't rely on fans alone.

my fans come on when my temp says 100/ 1010 ish then goes of at 120 ish allways has done and van must have done 15000 miles now
    both fans are pulling
when you lay next to the van you can feel the heat being moved around and pushed out the side

  18. good point

how fast can you scooby lads go before your temp rises
    mine does about 80 ish

so i was thinking while im doing 60/70 ish the air can flow under the van and the front suspension doesnt cause any problems
but then when you speed up does the air take a different route so to speak

    Mine runs very cool.
Sitting at 80 on the motorway it rarely gets to 90 degrees.
