The brake proportioning valve on my 71 is leaking. I know, prototype bay, but the one on my 77 looks the same, so, does anyone know how these bolt together, is it a machine surface seal, gasket or luck? Mine is leaking from this joint every time I brake, not ideal! Can't see any new ones, so looks like I'm fixing it, any help appreciated.
Did mine a some time ago cleaned it up including a bit of wet and dry paper on mating faces and put back together it fixed the leak
Me too, there was surface rust creeping in from the outer edges. Once cleaned up and reassembled it was fine. My Early never had one. I've also seen several replaced with a length of brake pipe. I wouldn't advise this, it's a safety feature to stop the rears locking first and your rear end passing you by. They don't have a noticeable effect on normal braking, you'd only miss it when you needed it.
You found that valve missing when you checked my van on Saturday. Do you have any idea where I could get one from?
I believe Heritage sell them? Ruddy expensive though. I know of one local lowering company who MOT'd a friends van and replaced it with a flexi-hose because it was leaking. He didn't get it back.
As you know I'm going Paradox on my braking system this winter so would you keep your eye out for one for me please?
Ha ha! Paradox is my new verb, (or doing word), Doing a Paradox on something mechanical means completely stripping it down, servicing, cleaning, repainting and reassembling so that it is as good as, if not better than new.
I'm in after 4.45 or I can leave it in the trailer. We better see that it works before I empty your wallet
