http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring...assic-car-VED-exemption-extended-to-1974.html Its 1974 from next year. I'd imagine that means we have a number of members on here who benefit. Happy Days! Could this be the start of a rolling historic vehicle tax threshold (something I've said a million times will never happen)???
"from April 2014 any car registered before January 1 2014 will be entitled to a free tax disc" Major typo on the telegraph website, either that or most of the country will be getting free road tax
It's about time they started it moving again although we are tax free but will still be good news for quite a few on here! I wonder if they will keep it rolling or just leave it at 1974?
it's gonna be funny when some of the ringers are now free tax - i know of one on here for deffo hahahhaha.......
If they do keep it rolling on a year at every budget going forward, it will still take 5 years for mine to become tax free
Fantastic piece of jouralism. Currently vehicles manufactured before 1st of january 1973 are exempt, not registered. I would take this with a pinch of salt guys - shoddy journo. Bet he gets paid more than most of us!
Yay. mines a 73 and I already have the build certificate to prove it. Plus my tax is from mid jan so that means I have no more to pay ever!!
There's another link here: which refers to build date rather than registration date: http://www.whatcar.com/car-news/budget-2013-what-it-means-for-motorists/265602
Yeah just realised that. Thought it started in Jan. Thats ok though will just buy 6mths rather than a year.
Its in Black and White. .Owners of classic cars received a boost in the Budget. Classic car tax exemption has been moved forward by a year, so cars built before January 1, 1974, will now qualify for a free VED disc. Previously this applied only to cars built before January 1, 1973. I already have free tax,but good news for those who dont. .
