Think its something on the cluster, my hazard keeps blowing sometimes and the lights on cluster are intermittent. All new bulbs and wires tested. Maybe need to strip out and clean all the connection area? Not sure about hazard though.
Intermittent cluster lights may be a dodgy rheostat on the headlight switch. Or a connection fallen off it.
The red wire on cluster is bridged to an earth - I am no electrician but that seems odd to me and the red is not original
Actually, looking at the pic, the left hand fuel gauge spade appears to be connected to an earth. It should be connected to the fuel gauge sender wire (brown/black?). I think the new regulator's been mis-wired @BarryDean . Check your wiring!
Check the side light bulbs in the headlights are correct and the wiring to the indicators is the right way round
Flickery lights - as @snotty says, there should be at least one earth wire on the earthing star that goes to the bodywork. The hazards blowing fuses could be simply that the hazard switch is falling apart, or that some piece of metal has fallen in between the connections to the switch e..g one of the clips that hold the cluster in place in the dash. Fixing the switch can involve pushing it back together and holding the switch together with some cable ties or just buying another switch. Another fuse blowing route is that the handbrake lever strips the insulation off some of the wiring loom that loops round the top of the lever, and shorts out circuits intermittently, and if that involves one of the indicator wires, it blows fuses. And otherwise check sillies like the front indicator wiring has the ground and the power to the bulb the right way round - as if you swap them they will flash all the time the self tapper holding one side of the indicator in place is rusty enough, but if it connects, suddenly it shorts out the circuit.
Don't have an earthing star back of the cluster, just the single earth connection not the original one. EARTH pic shows the two connections, one to the regulator and one returns to the board which is earthed direct to the body. My electrical set-up is different (see pic) each component is individually fused and the whole board is earthed to the body, if not I would have no doubt had a major problem. Since installing seems to be the worst at the moment but think its just an earthing/shorting issue. had the hazards flashing with switch not fitted, installed then it blew, as the body is metal and clearly touches the dash should there not be a washer in between?
have you got your hazard switch wired correctly? The hazard switch doesn’t need to be isolated from the dash the body of it shouldn’t be live put a tester on the hazard switch to see if it’s live on the body , pull off wires until it’s not
Have removed Switch which shows no signs of damage. See how it was wired up, this is how I was told to wire it as what should be GREEN as per wiring diagram is BLACK and what should be BLACK/GREEN/WHITE is BLUE/RED. Tested the wires and only shows power from the BLACK ? Also drawing of current light switch set-up, checking all areas.
the inside one, the other is outside on the body, i had nothing on the tab on the body? is that one of the issues?
Are you sure that what went on 49a is not touching the switch body tag right next to it. If you are not using the tag, bend it a bit further apart from its neighbour. There is a single need for the earth on the switch- its the ground for the bulb in the knob that lights up in step with the power to the indicators when you pull the switch. If that bulb is shorted or maybe missing and its contacts are shorting.. theres a short to the case of the switch.
