So the mighty atom (my mum) isn’t able to get in an ordinary car anymore due to two replacement knees one of which means she can’t bend it….so I’m off to buy a cheap wheelchair access car. Does anyone have any experience of running one of these vehicles….in terms of insurance and tax? It’ll be used once or twice a month and is 23 years old Citroen Berlingo….usage dictated purchase price point! Meanwhile I’ll thrill you all with my public transport journey.
My first train journey from Cardiff to London in 36 years has got off to a roaring start. Train cancelled so no more booked seat luxury for this guy and the joy of two trains worth of weekend passengers all on one train…i.electric. self important bell ends with loads of luggage as opposed to average commuters who travel light and just want to work with you so this hell ends.
Isn’t the Citroen an ordinary car? Or does it have some type of swivel seat customisation sort of thing?
It's Saturday, weekend travellers are entitled to take luggage. And commuters tend to be bigger bell ends than weekenders.
A quick saunter to the bogs….lovely….design a toilet with no seat so everyone slashes all over it. Nice touch. No water from the sinks….I assume the driers don’t work either!
I commuted into London twice a week off and on for 20 years. My experience with holiday makers is that they think their luggage is more important than fellow human beings, and act accordingly.
I took the family to Disneyland Paris for Christmas some years back, it cost me a fortune and was totally spoiled by our luggage being lost at the airport on the way there. I get the need to guard your luggage. Since that holiday I’ve become very protective about it, even to the point of trying my best to see it loaded onto the plane, the placement in the hold and then when I get to my destination watching them unload it. Sad but true!
That’s what happens when all your stuff is Gucci and Versace, though. We just Chuck the Primark and Peacocks stuff in, don’t worry about it. But on the same note, we went to Florida one year, on a dead relatives will money, and while we were there, we bought two Tommy hillfiger suitcases,as they were cheap. That one, fitted inside the other. We also bought a load of Brand new North Face and other top named stuff in the factory outlets there.Really cheap. We put all the new stuff in our old suitcases, and put all our two weeks of dirty washing, etc in the new one. ( one case inside the other) When we got back to Heathrow, we waited on the carousel for our cases, we then had 4 in total as before on the way out, we only had 3. The new case finally came around, but it was the only one that had been opened as I’m guessing the customs were looking for new stuff, where the tax hadn’t been paid. Instead, all they found was 2 weeks of dirty washing. Top tip.
Can your mum claim PIP or DSA (though probably changed named again). She could claim fo Mobility and you could rent a car, can't remember if you get them adapted - last time we looked at it was 2 years ago for Kim. www.motability.co.uk
Just exiting Newport….is there a prettier place on a cold damp December day? Some Americans have joined us, I’m looking forward to seeing how their frontier spirit copes with a strange stoic mess that has washed over the rest of us. If I had a seat, I’m sure I’d be on the edge of it as we approach the Severn Tunnel. I assure the nearest American that’s it’s a marked improvement over the Sixth Tunnel it replaced.
The Americans have all decided to sit down as one….it’s like synchronised swimming but with more body fat and friendship bracelets I’m not sure why they’ve done this….it could be motion sickness….I’d not be sitting on this floor given it’s next to the out of order toilet. I hope they don’t start singing…
Hello St George! I say this quietly as the American might think I man Georgia and one can never be sure if I’m therefore seen as a trump supporter. The British really do have a habit of apologising for no reason….the guy whose just forced the American to stand so he can then not use the broken toilet said it as he went up, then back again….a remarkably 9 times, fair play.
Beautiful Bristol Parkway….in no way does it look like a Kwik Fit branch. Just helped what I assume is a student put her suitcase on the rack….I think she’s carrying depleted uranium or gold bullion….or more positively a black hole is opening under us given how much fun we are all having. The Americans have been split up and are trying to regroup….an influx new passengers have cast them asunder.
If it’s used once or twice a month, surely taxis would be the sensible option. Used to work with a guy who lived with his elderly mum….. although he could drive, he worked out that taxis were more cost effective, unless of course your mum lives in the middle of nowhere.
Stunning Swindon. The Americans have got off here, in a move best described as jaw dropping….I’d always assumed Swindon was a place you came from never went to… I’ve never heard anyone say the are going to Swindon. I wonder what’s there that attracting our erstwhile colonial friends?!
It’s a small van derived car So the seating/driving is more van like It’s one of the reasons I bought a berlingo as it’s easier for me to get in and out of compared to a car and sits me in a less painful position.
