Hi all Just fitting the rear outer valance and wondering what is best here.. there’s obv a gap and the valance has a wrap tab on it so I’m guessing I might need to weld a tab onto the inside of the rear corner maybe? Any ideas? Cheers Benji Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Chassis rail finishes at my D post mate?? Thats the other side obv but the Inside edge and end of the chassis rail is also 2” further over?? Have I got a deformed bus?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Yes it's a wierd bit and always so rotten... I've been known to add a bit to wrap the panels around as you can just see on this picture. Whether that's right/wrong good/bad I don't know. I suspect the original corner panel bent outwards here instead of continuing the bend in for the engine lid but it's too much faff to make like that these days.
It looks almost there to me. The chassis might just be out of line from being reversed into things over the years. I’m sure people will tell you it’s common!
Ah yeah I had done that ie made a bit of a tab but did it on the inside of the dpillar ages ago and took it off because it would have meant slitting the new rear corner to get it over.. makes sense to add one to the inside of the panel once the corner is on.. cheers dude I’ll give that a go Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I think it's worth making that tab or there's just kinda nothing but gaps which is not good. It does tie it all together. Turned out ok. I'm sure I'm teaching granny to suck eggs but if you took it off, put the engine lid back on and fit the valance to that to get it square and the gaps nice.
The way @Zed has done it is how it was done from the factory, that’s the reason the outer valance appears short , it allows for a piece of plate either end , the chassis doesn’t run that far back , the rear corner wraps around the D pillar , small plate welded to the rear corner then the valance is folded around it
They’re actually my holes from taking the plate back off that I welded on.. I’ll fit the corner first and then spot the plates onto the corner 1/4 .. originally I was going to weld them to the D pillar and slit the corner to slide over but I’ll do the corner first now.. Threw me a bit when @paradox said the chassis rails should extend straight through and I though ‘ang on.. I’ve got a D pillar and the chassis rails nowhere near where it would come though .. makes more sense now though Cheers all Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
My apologies for the confusion It’s the bottom part that extends from the chassis rail The side is a tab as Zed showed Follow his advice regarding fitting the engine lid and getting the gaps right before welding it in. The person that did mine didn’t and the slanted panel gap annoys me.
No worries at all dude yeah agree with fitting the deck door first and marrying it up .. it would be a right git to take yours off and straighten it for the sake of 5mm but I can see it would grate a bit if you know it’s there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
@paradox just say it’s a bad day at the office.. read loads of your stuff over the years and you’re usually bob on.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
So just for my own clarification the bit that sticks out at the bottom That isn’t a continuation of the chassis rail?
