Hi, After much deliberation, and advice from this forum, I decided to take the plunge and fit a 123Ingnition dizzy. Now the problem is finding the right setting. What is the process for this? I have: - 1972 Bay window - The engine is slightly older than the Van (which was a surprise I found out today, Engine code 'B' (1600 cc, F4 layout, Petrol, 35kW, 47HP, Type 1, 2, manufactured between 1967 and 1970) - 34 Pict 3 Carb, - 009 Dizzy (doesn't work well with this carb, hence the swap). the 123 manual says I have to select the right advance curve, any suggestions how I can find out what the right advance curve is for this engine/carb set up? Thanks, John
As it's a dual port engine, any of the curves that say 24 or a bit less degrees of centrifugal advance by 3800 rpm and 9 degrees of vacuum advance will be worth a try, But as 24 plus 8 static degrees of timing advance is 32 degrees , although that makes your bus seem like a 123 is really perking it up, setting the distributor for max advance of 28 to 30 degrees at high RPM may be safer. I chickened out on my Frankenstein ignition's timing map, the centrifugal advance is 22 degrees with 12 degrees max vacuum advance..
