No, don't worry, I'm not about to grab a brightly sparking wand, a coil of wire, and start waving molten metal around.... heaven forbid. I'm after a bit of info on the actual logistics of it. To elaborate... My van has (or had) one of those tables with a thick ali post that recesses into the floor. I don't like it. So I built a different table. But now I have a superfluous metal recess in the middle of my vinyl. If I unscrew this, I get a nice view of my handbrake cable mechanism and the inside of my centre belly pan. Like most vans, my cargo floor is covered with a sheet of ply, and then vinyl flooring. All my cupboards, and the rock 'n' roll bed, are on top of this ply. I appreciate the vinyl will need to be replaced.... but if I were to cut the ply around the cupboards so it could be removed without taking all the internal furniture out - could the hole in the floor be welded up from inside without setting my fixtures and fitting on fire? Then I could refit a new piece of ply, and put new vinyl on top without the unnecessary metal recess for a table I no longer want. Possible? Or complete madness? (And if it's possible, who would like to do it for me? )
It's very very hard, almost impossible in fact to weld wood. Although I might have a packet of cementrodes, for concrete.
A quick reply is yes it could. Or....how about fixing a metal plate over the hole with self tapping screws or pop rivets and then replacing the plywood. Someone will pop along with a better answer maybe.
I want rid of the metal recess bit though - it's slightly raised and I'm perpetually kicking the plastic cover that goes in the recess when the table leg isn't in place. That's not a bad shout. rivets, screws, glue... all probably would do the trick.... hmmmmm
I think Davidoft means to remove the metal recess and not worry about filling it in. Then circular filler for t’hole and vinyl over the top. Maybe.
Hmmmm, that could work. But it's a 'ole. Even with ply and vinyl over it, it's still a 'ole in me floor. That just seems wrong.
I have some metal glue, kind of two part thing. Sticks like substance to a blanket. If you get a bit of plate this will stick it in.
Nah, I took it apart to look the other day, but screwed it back together without thinking to take a photo.... it's about 3-4" diameter. I'll unscrew it and measure later in the week, but to be honest it just looks like a hole in the vinyl and ply at the moment (can't see what state the cargo floor is in - maybe I'd prefer not to know.....)
Are you Scottish, or just insinuating that I should water the inside of my bellypan after a couple of beers at techenders?
