The Bricky leads are good. Incredibly positive connection to the plug electrode and a very nice, hard to push on springy connection to the dissy cap.
As you'd expect for type 4 air-cooled, the insulators are the correct tin length so all was good. They are also numbered, a nice but unnecessary gimmick but handy for those who rip things out without thinking
The problem occurs with the king lead. It's quite long in order to reach the coil on the T3 which is situated on the side wall of the engine bay rather than on top of the engine as in the bus. So, making your own leads is a thing and I figured how difficult could it be to shorten the Brickwerks offering to suit? Not at all, easy peasy. Pry off the cap, prise apart the crimp, remake the connection and re-crimp. 5 minutes.
And Robert's your mother's brother! A quick mod to a top quality set of leads, made by a VW specialist who mostly listens. With my trade discount etc they were approx 42 quid delivered on a next day service that was rudely interrupted by a bank holiday weekend of VW based frolics. Needless to say, the old leads will be secreted in the bus for that hopefully never to be needed moment
Perhaps we need to contact him mob handed and ask him to make a set with a shorter king lead for his T2 cousins. He'd sell a few straight away, I'm not sure I want a set if the first thing I have to do is modify it! They look nice though.
I know and agree. Mods out of the box are not for all but I took one for the team to see if the main leads were ok. They are so I'll email and ask if they would. I've got the king lead measurement now so it shouldn't be difficult if the desire is there...
I'd buy a set. Mine are OK but a a bodge of the bbc man's with new plug ends that are too long really for the short ones. Not ideal!
The Brazilian JK ones I bought last week were £30.50 after discount and with vat. They are fine for now but the last set I had on were German and I paid significantly more. Those do look good. I’d certainly be up for a set to put aside as a spare. Btw if you’re keeping your old leads as spares I can supply you with one that ain’t cracked on the cap. Remind me at some point!
Hi @Dicky - I was searching for a JK discount code, and your post came up.... do we get money off these days? and if so, how did you manage it? I've tried TLB thelatebay and latebay but nothing seems to work anymore. Cheers.
It used to work that way for me, but doesn't seem to now. I'm logged in, but no automatic price reduction. Maybe they don't like me anymore....
ah no worries, thanks anyway. My automatic discount seems to have vanished somewhere. I'll ask them when I collect my order tomorrow, if I remember...
Try browsing the same parts incognito Sarah. The discount applies even before you've logged on if you haven't cleaned out the cookie jar recently I think...
Went to change the air filter earlier and I was convinced we'd got one on board but could I find it... Mrs Monkey's inventory of hidden parts to the rescue Of course, underneath the games cupboard.... ...were hiding Frau Hengst and Herr Mann! Gotta love a Faux Westy for hidey holes
Westy's are good for hidey holes, I found a packet of Douglas's Rodeo chews whilst packing last night along with a washing line and other random bits oh and six clothes pegs
