Dashboard top and padded bar would seem to be what you’re after, early version with the 4 slots. It’s possible to trim over the padded bar with thin stretchy vinyl.
...and weld repair the top. They always rust there, it's not too hard to butt weld a piece in, bit of filler, paint with matt or get a can made up with 10-15% matting agent for a less matt finish like the original.
The motor was the only thing I've found to be faulty, however, was simply a case of hideous wiring by previous owners. We've even discovered a standard household appliance lead thats been used to wire in the numberplate light on the rear plus a host of random live wires not attached to anything!! Lucky they've not shorted out on anything! Anyway, front end rebuild has halted waiting on inner valance to arrive, so the offside panel repairs are underway, plus sills going in all round. Absolutely not the planned route, but guess that's the way these restorations go?
you still after A pillars? There is/was a bloke here in Aus that was making them Found it. Page 4 of this thread https://kombiclubaustralia.com/showthread.php?tid=18&page=4&highlight=A pillars
Stay away from custom colours in my opinion. Plenty of stock VW colours to keep you amused. Some can be painful though. Martini Olive for one. Otherwise just get a “base white” and add some tint to it. Something you can easily recreate from. Both my vans are white and I added some wrap stripes to give some lift. I replace / change them every 5 years or so.
@Dean mitropoulos hey Have you picked up our old forum died. Above link takes you to new Kombi Club Australia
Thank you. I was trying to get on it but I cannot use my email for some reason to create a new account. What was the reason they closed that fourm?
I got the guy to make me a set. once they arrived, they were too wide and were not folded correctly. the second set I got seemed fine but the profile around the windscreen was too low and the windscreen rubber sat over it. the guy doing my kombi said he will make a set. besides I believe @ShaggyViking is from the uk so he will have to get a set made locally.
