Shared via facebook. I agree with Doug, its likely to be a different colour by now. The one in Worcestershire was transformed overnight, albeit badly.
Just thinking aloud... I keep seeing late bays with black/silver number plates. I tend to tut and point a finger - "nice bus but illegal plates, you could just buy an early instead". Then I realised something. You should all put black/silver plates on your late bays. It should increase the chances the cops will stop you, and if your bus has been stolen... P.S Don't take it too serious, was tongue in cheek.
The police are unlikely to stop you because of black and silver plates as most of them don't seem to know the law. Anything over 40 years old can have black & silver plates now anyway. So that's just about all late bays.
I think they are ok up to 73 year An awful lot going from London I Wouldn’t be surprised if these thefts are connected maybe if an insurance company were to bait one with a good enough tracking System They wouldn’t need to keep paying out for so many and people would not lose their pride and joy so often
Who can display a black and silver number plate? Vehicles made before January 1973 are allowed to display a traditional number plate, i.e. with white, silver or grey characters on a black plate. From April 2019, vehicles registered before the 1st of January 1979 can legally display a black and silver number plate providing they have applied to the DVLA and are registered with the ‘historic vehicles’ tax class.
I didn't know that. The last regulations I read said "anything manufactured after January 1st 1973 must have new style plates" (paraphrased). I've just checked the latest regs at DVLA. From https://assets.publishing.service.g...stration-numbers-and-number-plates-inf104.pdf: Traditional number plates for vehicles made before 1 January 1973 Vehicles made before 1 January 1973 may display traditional ‘black and white’ number plates (for example, white, silver or grey characters on a black plate). From April 2020 vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1980 are also able to display traditional ‘black and white’ number plates. You must: • have applied to DVLA • be registered within the ‘historic vehicles’ tax class The 40-year exemption date rolls forward automatically each year on 1 April. So, it was Jan '73, then from '15 it was Jan '75 and now from April '20 it's from Jan '80. OH and also, the exemption rolls forward now every april... How confusing can a govt publication get? I was thinking of fitting a GPS tracker. I did some research and came to the conclusion the that cheaper units are probably not worth it - the scavs put an RF jammer in the cig lighter socket which blocks GPS and GSM signals enough so that your unit can't phone home with a location. The more expensive units probably can get around this somewhat.
I have a late 73 bus with Black and Silver plates. I have no intention of changing them as I’ve found it quite useful parking in numberplate recognition car parks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
