And buy their lifters to go with it.

  2. That will come to about $300 plus shipping plus import duty. Probably about £350 landed.

  3. Issue is I dont really want to order from USA as delivery will take ages. Unless that's my best option

Well, on Samba they are reporting that some suppliers in the states are going into lockdown. I'd be cautious. We might get the impression that they are to dumb and ignoring it over there but they're hoarding, running out of bog roll and social distancing just like we are at the people level. Essential stuff only by force of law, businesses closing and going bust, everyone's pension fund taking a hit, just like here.

And it'll be months until you need it. I'd hold fire, it's going to take you quite a while to remove, strip and assess your engine components. First time you did anything like this? You can do it, everyone has a first time so no problem there, but first time is when you stop and consider, ask and learn and it could take a while. Good timing though because everyone's sat twiddling their thumbs, you will have plenty attention and help.

  5. I'm being good and looking at my Haynes. Didn't realise the crankshaft was right next to it. Hmmm this definitely got harder in my mind .

So 14 days is a little optimistic haha

On a more positive note, there are a shockingly small number of parts inside the crankcase and none of them are fiddly. There's just a lot of shading and cross hatching of the diagrams that makes it look harder than it is.

And don't just throw the bearing shells and don't mix them up. If I hadn't already bought new I could have reused the original 40 year old bearings in my monster engine. I bet they are better than new offerings and IIRC some type-4 sizes are impossible to get. ...IIRC, if you have a stock unworked crank that just needs a 0.25mm grind - tough, you can't get the bearings and have to have 0.5mm ground off. Garrick might know the exact details. :)

Could be worse - you carelessly damage just one shell, discover you can't get replacements and have to have the crank ground just to get bearings that fit!

Caution is key. Love your parts until you are sure you can replace them. Don't put them down in the gutter. ;)

  9. It's not so bad once you're in there aren't that many bits once you're in... and double up on the comment about bearings.. measure everything find out what you need see if it's available before changing anything.

Bearings weren't too bad actually last time I ordered ..couple of months ago.. Coolair were getting some in two days after I rang for a 0.25 grind on a crank and they had a few of the other on the shelf but always worth ringing to ask... think it always says call for a lead time on the site...

I'm not experienced enough to recognise good used v bin fodder so I found new replacements for most 'consumables' (bearings).

14 days might be optimistic first time home builder.. theres a bit of reading/ asking to do but if you've nothing else on and bits are available nothing saying it's not possible.

Jake Raby video only lasts 3 hours and he has it apart and running again from scratch..... though he does skip a few repetitive bits and has lots of shiny new bits and never has to clean anything...

Maybe the case then rather than the crank, but I'm 99% sure it's a first cut of something that's not available.

If he wants to stay with a hydraulic cam he’d need a Web 370, change to Web 140 (solid) and he’d need new pushrods.

  12. I think you need to send yours in to be reground actually so you can pick either but then shipping two ways would make it same as new from here... if you can get them...

  16. Right day 2 starts now I'm finally up and ready, time to take off anything unnecessary to try and make the engine lighter.

wd40 every nut bolt washer and leave to soak, snapping head studs off is an arse , you can get almost everything off before removing the engine , just requires a little time and patience
