  2. Take someone who knows camper vans with you, regardless of if buying from a dealer or privately

  3. Depends who they are. And if they know what they're doing. Take someone who knows campers with you is the best advice.

  10. ask on here for people near you
join local v dub club and ask who the respected local experts are (offer to pay for their time)
Ask a local vw specialist garage (who doesn't sell) if they will inspect for you (this may be very costly)

I suppose with a trader, in theory, you have more protection than buying from a private sale. Then again, you'll prob pay more. As it says up there, find someone, of here for ex, who knows about these old dubs and take them along to viewings if they are amenable to that.

  13. @davidoft knows a bloke on the South Coast who was selling a large collection of vdubs

I don't know if he has any left that might be suitable/ in your budget

his were quite original if i remember correctly

Agree with the above really. There are good and bad in all trades, so if you can find someone that knows their stuff, take them with you. Unfortunately, there are a lot of shiney turds about these days..

One of my customers has a bus that came from VW Downunder, and it is a really nice, rust free bus, but obviously that doesnt mean that all their buses are! Do a Google search of whatever company you are thinking of using before you go, that usually comes up with something if they have a dodgy rep.

  15. All the above really , be sure to take someone who knows their stuff .
@davidoft is on the South coast and has been known to rent himself out on a daily basis ...
    ALSO
It`s a buyers market , don`t buy the first one you see !!
As @paulcalf mentioned , there`s a guy David knows who`s selling off his own collection - all seem very straight and reasonably priced .

They were or are immaculate ...they will be top notch probably 16 grand and the rest ...but you could buy a 11 grand one and end up paying another 5 grand to make it imac .
It's simply all about how much you want to spend on this wonderful hobby ownership
