I guess I'll just start .... My names Garry, 32, from Edinburgh and about a week ago I finally ticked one of my highest bucket list items off ... I finally got my hands on my very own 1976 Bus!!! .. Well my dad did, gave up, and sold it to me for a bargain! She isn't running at the moment, Mainly because I actually have not tried to yet (thanks Ciara!). I genuinely cannot wait to get started on her and get on the road, but no doubt this will come with a lot of hard work on my part, aided by a lot of help and answers from you guys. Ive noticed already that you seem a very welcoming and lovely bunch and I thank you all in advance for putting up with me and what will no doubt be some daft questions! ... and my first, hopefully not dumb, question.. can they still be called "Bus" if its technically a Camper?, from what I can tell every nickname (Bus, Van, Hippie Van, etc) works no matter the variant, or am I wrong? .. babbled on a bit more than i thought I would so I guess I'll treat you with a couple pics (that I finally got since Ciara popped the cover off for me!) ... .. I'll shush now.
Howdy! TLB things to note. 1. looks can be deceiving! 2. Lovely isn't the word I would use 3. We haven't put up with you yet 4. you won't be the first or last with daft questions. 5. this is a VERY SERIOUS CLASSIC CAR SITE so no nonsense please! 6. @Barry Haynes is not bald, he is just thinning 7. It's always sunny in Barnsley I think that's most of the admin done!
.... and don't ask what oil... or it could go on for some time.. and welcome along, nice bus.. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
see @CollyP , lovely .. (so far?) I haven't been able to ID the roof yet either, which is quite annoying since its one thing I really need to get sorted (wont close fully atm) and may need bits for. Suddenly I feel like I haven't read enough about what oil to use! @Little Nellie that's a mean compliment! .. but I'm settling on Bus, and if i get shouted at then so be it!
Is that 3/4 of a Westy roof on a tintop?! Welcome, love Edinburgh, lived there for 5 years and met my wife there.
See, I was thinking along those lines since I've seen a lot with the extra bit above the cab. I've only opened it once to see if it would open, then struggled to shut it so kept away from it. From what I remember the material doesn't have any 'windows' in it, like Westies do(?), also the fiberglass does fully surround it, which i believe Westies have a kind of open side that joins the extra 1/4?. Further examination will be needed i thinks!
Hi and welcome along to the mad house. Ignore @Barry Haynes, we all do!!! Listen to @Terrordales as he's sensible (I will get off his list!)
Greetings Garry Welcome along, i'm sure you will have much fun and a bit of swearing with your van ownership. Great colour choice
