Put the roof rack back on and polished the elevating roof.

Emptied it out, of garden chairs, and started to dry it out. Maybe wipe all the black spores off of everything later. I’m finding bits of motivation inside it... ...

  9. Decided to treat it to a battery to battery charger, be interesting to see how it preforms compared to the standard relay I previously had fitted.

  10. Let us know how you get on with it Ian please.
From the looking into them I’ve done they do seem to be the best solution
Does yours have a solar input aswell?

  11. The van cut out whilst driving back from the peaks the other day.

I free wheeled for quite a while looking for somewhere safe to pull in.

Neither of the 2 red lights came on when I tried to re start it.

Fuse looked OK, it hadn't blown. I took it out, gave it a rub and put it back in again. It didn't fix it.

Got a new fuse out and put it in, it felt very lose. So I adjusted the bottom metal peg upwards.

Drove home keeping an eye on everything and it was fine. Fuse wasn't warm when I got back.

Closer inspection when I got home revealed melted plastic holding the top fuse holder much higher than all the rest. There also seems to be some melted plastic on the fuse. No idea if this happend that day or years ago.

So I've pushed the bottom holder up to hold the fuse in place and I'll keep an eye on it to see if I've developed a short somewhere. I think / hope the fuse just became loose whilst driving.

What else is on that circuit?

  12. This is a B2B only, I looked at the Ctek that has a solar input too but I got a deal and this worked out cheaper to get along with eventually something like a Victron mppt controller as I’ve already got a Victron mains battery charger and like the app for it.

  13. What year Paul? As fitted wiring diagrams can be found on The Samba, assuming it's not had loads of stuff added to it.

^^^as @F_Pantos said different years had different configurations. Below is a photo of Bentley if it helps, bit tricky to follow good luck.

Have fun and hope you get it sorted.

Finished the last of the wheel clean up, all lacquered and clean plus the centre caps have been sprayed satin black with silver logo. Just got to refit them all now. 20200113_180635757_iOS.jpg

That’s actually quite a groovy photo. Man.

Hope it didn’t sit there broken too long.

    Bloody hate those torpedo things.
Ceramic fuses don’t melt like the plastic ones but they’re all cack.

  18. Nothing that would make the ignition cut out. The ignition circuit isn't fused. Need to find out what's connected to that fuse in your particular van - "improved" wiring? Whatever it is, it's been drawing some serious current.

There's nothing inherently wrong with the plastic torpedo fuses.

I’ve seen cheep blade fuses melt the same as cheep torpedo fuses. Get decent ones and clean the 40 years of dirt and corrosion off the old ones and there fine.
