No slightly left of centre. As far as I have read the current strike on South Western Trains is about the unions wanting the Guards in charge of the doors, modern trains are constructed so that the door operating switch is under the drivers control. South Western Railway have said they will keep guards but they want them to be more customer facing helping disabled passengers, etc. Is this wrong
It depends on what 'more customer facing' means, but at least we've reached agreement that its not all about greedy unions demanding more pay all the time. If you want to see what milking the system really means have a read up on the TOC's who own all the rail franchises - all receiving huge public subsidies even though we keep getting told they are better value for money for the taxpayer
We already have driver only trains. Technology has advanced and modern trains can be operated safely with driver only. This strike is so 1970's attitude. I remember when steam trains were phased out in the 1960's and ceased overnight in 1968, with thousands of loco fireman and drivers out of a job. Some steam drivers were retrained to drive the diesels but not all. It was progress and change and the old unions like ASLEF stirred up trouble. Change was inevitable. Like the change to driver only trains. Its modern, its progress. If this dispute continues I can see the new Government intervening. Good.
I enjoyed my job at the zoo circumcising elephants the pay was poor but the tips were massive I'm here all week
Strange one. The Scottish are moaning about Johnson getting in but have all but killed the Labour party in Scotland. Serious question- what did you think was going to happen?
At least now when people say " what's a taxi driver doing voting conservative" I can reply Same as the ex Miners, Steelworkers, ship builders etc in the north east
Facebook currently contains almost as many public displays of hand-wringing as it did after Brexit won a majority.
Is it wrong that I shouted scab at the telly when they were interviewing an ex miner in Blyth who voted Tory?
It still gets shouted at Nottingham fans by Barnsley fans who weren't even born in the strike, they just change it to your dads a scab your a scab. Years later we find out how close they where to winning.
Well leave it there I guess but what’s happened to the working class that those who fought and suffered Thatcherism have voted for it. That they have believed the media they despised, even that they have lost any solidarity or belief with the institutions that brought them closer to their European brothers and sisters (I almost said comrades) and have prevented the working classes of the European states dying in their millions for 70 years and voted against that in the first place. Everyone likes to wear a poppy and repeats the mantra of “lest we forget” but they have forgotten. I’m off to take my medication!
Tbh Dicky, a bit. No disrespect to your good self, but he is an "ex"miner, everything changes, the individual, times and the party
It's called divide and conquer. Smash the industries that made the communities.............. Sorry you managed to put the soap box out and I stood on it.
