Which fuel tank sender

  1. You can’t beat a tickle with some wet and dry ;)

I meant possibly add a bit of additional series resistance if you don’t get the full range. I forget whether empty is the higher resistance value.

Yes empty is the highest resistance. Judging by the wear marks on the old windings I'd say it was getting full range - will tweak the bìg tabs to make sure.
What made me laugh was the minimum order for that wire was £16.... for 500metres!!!!:D
    Perhaps I'll go into business.
    It's become a challenge now.

  5. So when you take the old wire off can you see where the windings have been?

Yes indeed. There may even be a groove. I've got a desk magnifying lamp which should help too.

    Micrometer arrived. 0.11mm
So have ordered the wire - if this works, I'll have enough to do about 350 senders o_O

Somebody said they threw out 25 of them -

Seriously thinking of setting up a little side line if anybody has any broken ones lying around they could part with?

So i opened this up today just to see why it gave erratic readings.

Do you think this is why my bus killed 3 fuel gauges?
Ps your welcome to it if you want it Mark.[IMG][IMG]

  11. Hmm. Think it's more due to the fact that you applied 12V directly to the sender ;)

    Ouch!

Yes please - I was thinking about the best way to make the little boards. This will give me one to experiment with. If I pm you my address, can I pay you something + postage via PayPal?

  13. If you want to do the boards, they look like phenolic paper/paxolin jobs. If you're going into full-scale production, you could have a PCB company make them for you (without any tracks).

Good thinking Batman. Will try and find one. Maybe after I've used up my wire!

  17. If you're keen, get the board CAD-ed up and get a quote from an agent for a Chinese company. They could punch the board and holes (might think it a bit odd if there're no tracks ;)). Chinese companies can do these things in their sleep.

You could become a fuel sender tycoon!

A good shout. I do currently import from China for my Zip Buddy business and do have an agent in China. I'm going to have a bash at mine and the fried one from Ian. I'll make a little board for that one and suss out all the info needed to order from China - you really have to nail every detail when getting things made there, if you leave anything out they will get it wrong - ask me how I know. I wonder how big the market is?

  19. Before you whip Ian's wire off, would be worth working along the track with your meter seeing how the resistance varies along it. Sine function, I reckon.

  20. Wow! I've been to a fair few wire drawers but their wire was much thicker - up to maybe 10 mm. It would come in coils, get pickled in acid, then drawn down through various dies to the required thickness. But how do you drill a hole in a diamond?
