This pic any good? The fuel hose clamp (bottom left) is where the throttle cable used to exit the tin. Once you’ve repositioned the cable guide check the hole in transmission hanger and body – I had to enlarge it to allow the flex conduit to pass through as straight as possible. The existing throttle cable will be too long but obviously it’s easy to shorten it and fit a new ferrule. I don’t think the correct flex cable conduit is available but most of the suppliers have a Beetle one that could be ‘trimmed’ to length. Coolair are cheaper than Schofield and I expect it’s the same part https://www.coolairvw.co.uk/Item/Sh...s_Accelerator_Cable_Conduit_-_600mm_Long.html
I think it's now clicked in my tiny brain. I've also realised that with the bell crank at the g/box end of the engine, I'll need to swap the carbs over from left to right. Thanks for the help as always. Without this forum and the collective knowledge I'm sure I'd still have a big heap of metal bits in the middle of the garage!
On the earth strap, I've just found Alco Ltd. They sell via eBay but have their own website too. They manufacture copper braid stuff. Does anyone know what amp rating the earth strap would ideally be? These guys make up what you need at a fraction of the price from usual suspects.
What do you use for ferrules for the accelerator cable where it goes in the pinch bolt? I was thinking of trying some cycle cable ferrules as it's quite a thin cable.
Not sure what you mean. I've already got the cable which I'll need to chop the ferrule bit off as it's too long. I had the same on my buggy and rolled up a tiny bit of brass around the cable before doing up the pinch bolt, in an effort to protect the cable strands. It was quite a faff so wondered what others do to protect the cable. I think a bike cable ferrule will work - I've ordered a pack of 10 for a quid or so. I'll report back.
I cut the ferrule from the original cable, it had been crimped right at the end and is now a bit shorter but still plenty long enough. You could try a cycle brake cable ferrule but the throttle cable is thicker than you might think. No need, the original cable is already too long, the EMPI one would hang out the back of the bus a couple of feet.
