Hi Has anybody fitted a double din stereo to the dashboard of the bay? Does it fit and not interfere with anything? Anybody got any pictures of the installation particularly from the underneath?
I expect the top of the handbrake lever may be a bit close. The back of a single DIN unit is about 15mm above the ashtray near the back. A finger sized gap. At the very back of the unit, its lower than the top of the ashtray. You would have to cut out both above and below the normal aperture. Then watch out for the plastic at the top of the dash..
I was looking at either a kenwood or pioneer unit which was single din at the back & double din screen at the front, no cd drive though it was geared around phones/iPods
I have a spare double din android system but its not fitted. its only two inches deep from the face so should fit with a profiled surround.
I fitted a double din a few years back. 1 because the previous owner used a blunt tin opener to fit a radio. 2 because it came with a reversing camera so the Mrs could see what she was running over.. From memory I had to chop the ash tray up, it has no use anyway and even then the depth meant it was very close to touching the air pipe up to the middle of the dash. Careful measuring needed so it clears things but easily worked out.....
@Kevin Williams. Realise this is quite old thread but that is really smart. What model is that cos would solve my issue and wary of chinese ebay crap that has flip out screen
Thanks. See it has mirror link so can use phone apps too? Crap at knowing where I am so satnav always needed
I’ve had a look and they’re slightly cheaper through wish.com might try one of these myself , the mirror function looks handy ( if it works as it should) as I use Waze all the time
Same radio...£38 Might get reversing camera too as backing the bus into the garage can be a bit tight and that just takes power from reversing lights to activate and screen flips to video. I dunno.... kinda feels weird putting such tech in a 70's bus but like the idea of video player for camping trips.. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/254240716958
