Seriously, I wouldndt buy him another car, let him buy and insure his own and perhaps he might just have a little more respect for himself, the value of stuff and other peoples saftey. Sorry, cant sympathyse with his predicament, his driving caused it and could have been the death of someone else given the passenger side took the brunt of the impact. Thankfully no one else was injured . Or were they ? I spent the last 15 years of my working life informing parents and spouses there kids/ partners were dead , often as the result of irresponsible drivers , who walked away. The other day I was heading to a buddies house via a country road sitting at 45 in a 60 limit .. when a hot hatch driven by a young lad comes around the corner on my side of the road , I gave them a headloght flash and was rewarded by a sarcastic wave as they sorted the car out and carried on at speed .. You dont end up in a tree like that without being an immature massive tit. A low powered Ford Ka with an insurance black box which is safe and slower. Which he pays for and the insurance. Pay for him to go go karting until he gets round the track in a reasonable time without spinning out.

It is indeed an Ibiza. And yes it fared well. Dreadful car to own though. So many annoying design flaws like doors that don’t stay on and keep swinging back on your leg.
