Absorbed Glass Mat. Supposed to be able to handle being fully discharged better. (No idea if they actually do though).
The AGM battery holds charge better, cooes with deep discharge better but will die quicker if abused. ( left flat .. dont try with AGM .. ) Both will start stock buses easily if called on to do so. If you keep it charged with hookup and / or solar, go for the cheaper one..keep the receipt. With a a 5 year warranty both are good prices for what they are.
Good choice with the flooded lead acid. Even better if you can get the cell caps off to top up with distilled water at service time I have an oversize battery in there so the standard VW clamp doesn't fit. I bolted in a small rachet strap and that seems to keep the MOT man happy. Just got to be careful the bolts don't interfere with the battery case Edit...and watch that positive terminal on the wheel well. That'll make you jump if you arc the spanner whilst tightening the clamp... Stick a bit of rubber mat to the metal panel....
This pincushion was an Odyssey Extreme high quality AGM type battery. Allowed to go flat , left to sulphate up the plates. Then someone attempted to recharge it without mercy.. all the energy goes to heat and gas..
I can relate to the above. Often get agm batteries on customers SL’s that thve been stood some time and left in a discharged state. Trying to recover them by trying to get some initial charge and overcome the internal resistance ends up with excessive heat produced and they are often only good for scrap.
I’d take the 5 year warranty with a pinch of salt, I know of the ‘ c̶h̶a̶r̶a̶c̶t̶e̶r̶s̶ ‘ shop in Luton distributing these, if the batteries were only £1 they’d not honour the ‘warranty’
