Hi all What roadside jack do you recommend carrying? I have a small bottle jack, had a puncture in a car park, then found that there wasn’t sufficient travel in the jack to lift the wheel off the ground. Doh! Luckily, I was offered a jack by someone nearby, so managed to get the tyre off - problem solved, fortunately. So I need to get a better set up. Help! MarkE
I carry a 3 ton bottle Jack and a big chunk of wood to stand it on so it's more stable and has plenty of scope to lift the bus. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
I nearly started this thread myself this week. I bought a Bilstein jack from ebay but that didn't seem to be high enough (must have been a Beetle one, despite the ad saying bus) and it also took a chunk of paint off to the metal, the Mrs crash covered that though. I've a small bottle jack, again, too short.
As said block of wood and if you want to be belt n braces one axle stand to drop it on too , just incase you need to get under .
A small 1.5 tonne scissors jack to do the initial lift to get the bottle jack under then a 3 tonne bottle jack for the lift, on a wooden pad. Leave both in place for safety- treat scissors jack as an axle stand. As the bus is lowered 3 inches the bottle jack doesnt fit under at first. Both fit together in the space under the passenger seat beside the wheel arch.
This...until I tried to use it for the first time and even with the help of a breeze block, the wheel remained firmly on the ground!
Ford Sierra jack with the tube cut off and a piece of box welded onto replace, works a treat in the jacking points, i also carry a block of wood for soft ground https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Sie...551606?hash=item3ada3d44f6:g:9FIAAOSwu4BVjxqo
