2 pac and no I don't mean the rapper... I have just ordered some paint mixed up to a sample and it's 2 pac paint. If you have used it can you give any advise on it.... how many coats to put on, flash times or mix ratios. I have the use of masks and other safety gear...
2 - 1 paint and hardener, 10% thinners. Touch a bit of masking tape next to where you have sprayed. Once tacky do another coat, 4 coats probably. Could increase thinners on last coat. Have you got fast hardener ? Have you got the proper mixing cups, they have the measures on the side
Number of coats depends on the paint manufacturer as to how well it will cover, and also the colour of primer/existing surface you are painting to, but if the paint is good 2 coats is sometimes enough. If you’re painting next week when it’s due to be really hot, you’ll need a slow hardener, or try to be quick and keep your coats wet to avoid dry overspray.
Need more than 2 with my Nephew helping, he rubs through when flattening and polishing. I drew a big finger line round the sliding door handle, stay away I said, came back 20 mins later and rubbed through the edges. He is a bit ...... 10 watt
I have cups and filters with scales on the side...someone had said mix by weight rather than by ml.. @Kruger I am painting the rear arch panel after repairs to the lower sill and outer arch and 2pac priming bottom half (in red oxide at present) and blending up to window. So if it's warmer then shorter flash time.. Cheers
Any tips on wet sanding @paradox as your the finishing expert. It has some defects but hey ho first time I've painted something and not to shabby if you ask me
Let it fully cure before you try and do anything with it How thick did you put the paint on and what defects does it have? I’m no expert just a keen hammer chewer
It's not on thick but 4 coats...maybe 1 not flashed long enough so couple of dots. Little dry spot on the final coat but not to bad for orange peel but no runs so I am happy enough. I will leave it for a bit and think about wet sanding. At least I am happy with the colour match which was my main concern as it's a non standard colour. Sent a sample off and I think they matched it spot on....
Cheers. I just watched some videos on YouTube and let rip! I did some panels by hand to get a feel for it but did some of the larger panels by machine. Depends how flat your paint went on but I hit it with either 1200 or 1500 to get it flat quick (easy to burn through if you’re not careful; see my resto and having to reclear coat the front panel!). Then get rid of the larger scratches with 2000 and finish with 3000. Then you’re good to compound and polish. I used my Mirka Mop with their cutting compound on a lambs wool pad followed by yellow waffle pad. I’m no expert on it, and there’s a few ways of doing it but this worked for me Think this was one of my first panels, before and after: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Looks like I will be on youtube while at work today and have a crack with wet sanding. It's not having a clear coat so will have to be careful not to scratch it.
