Hi I'm struggling with the kitchen light and how it attaches to the ceiling. As you know my van came with most of the interior missing. I'm currently making the headliner panels so ideally if any of you kind folk can take some pic I'd be eternally grateful! Many thsnks
Is this what you mean? I’ve got a 3 tube labcraft strip light, though this is probably not original. I added a socket so I can plug in stuff when I’m in the top bunk.
Thanks Andy yeah tho I’ve got (or think I’ve got!) the original Westy light with what looks like 4 prongs that attach to the van. I just can’t see how they fit tightly. I’m guessing the narrow white headlining strips (that I don’t have) have some thing to do with how the light is secured.
Can’t help much then. I only know that behind the light there is quite a large hole in the trim panel, and also I think in the metal behind. Perhaps the light originally was recessed into it.
I’m just replacing the wooden trim and light myself. So, the light unit fits over the wooden trim which has a square hole cut out the same size as the square hole on the bodywork. Those prongs spring open and hold the light in place, if that makes sense. I have the old trim if you want a couple of images taking with measurements of the hole size etc?
leave it with me & I'll draw a dimensional sketch when Im home from work and nab a photo of the trim piece alongside it
Check the light works first before cutting a whacking great hole in the trim You can convert the housing to led fairly simply though if it doesn't
that's exactly what Im doing, Ive the shorter one of these for the back near the locker and the longer one over the sink http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/product.php/155/led-interior-lamp-10-30v http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/product.php/156/led-interior-lamp-10-30v
Top tip! I’ve got three to choose from and one is nos, although that is no guarantee that it’ll work!! I’m probably going to go with a LED conversion as I’m guessing og isn’t as bright as I could be!
the overhead locker is done and back in the bus, that just needed the wood sanding / varnishing and new rubber trim fitting. It did have a bit of lifting of the laminate which glued back okay. The laminate has been polished then buffed over with beeswax furniture polish, I'm happy with the end result
