VWheritage German Make recommended by them for a better fit, but I’m stumped.
Been trying all afternoon to fit the screen. Broke one already and now using the spare and don’t want to push my luck. Is it me or the rubber?

  4. If it makes you feel any better, I broke mine too. Then I had a childish sulk and got someone to fit it for me.
@Baysearcher has my genuine used once new rubber seal, if you ask him nicely (and he can find it) he would bring it to techenders for you.
I suspect @davidoft would tell you to put the seal in hot water first.

It has been a very hot day, I did think of doing that, but thought it felt quite hot yo the touch in the full Sun.

Did you loop chord around the seal and waxoyl the panel lip where the seal passes over?

  7. Having done this job a couple of times myself. I found using talcum powder worked best. However it wasn't an easy job and a two person one.

No waxoil, but yes used single pole 1mm electric wire, worked well, but that top bit won't sit in.

From memory we struggled with that bit too, I can’t remember how we sorted it but it took a while

  10. You need to start at the top & get that in first so that you can push hard against the bottom of the screen it's too difficult to push hard enough at the top unless you are 16' tall! Start again & put a lube on the rubber- as said above two man job- one pulling the string at right angles to the rubber inside from the top & a bigger person lending some weight to the bottom outside, you may need to slap it in the corners.... there will be a youtube vid probably

    Brilliant thanks bud

  13. I put a small but good ratchet strap round the top, hooked onto the seat runners, click and hit click and hit, :)

The bottoms in to far , you really need to try to have the screen exactly where you would like it to be when finished then pull the string to pop it in, 2 people is best

I helped/watched whilst my mate Gary (an autoglass fitter of 30 years) fitted every piece of glass in an hour ,except for front doors.
All new German rubber from AS
These are what he used I think the cord is off a tent.
He started with the screen spraying the appiture then placed the screen as davidoft says place it where you want it to finish.
All I did was press on the glass.
He started at the bottom centre working towards the offside to the top centre.
Then took the other end at bottom centre working towards the nearside whilst also pulling from the top centre, nearside top wasn't seating right and the rubber wasn't quite right looking raised from outside and not covering all the lip on the inside,so he left it while he done the other windows he said leaving the rubber to "seat itself" after going back to the screen you could see there had been movement as the rubber was trying to equalise itself he then did a few presses on the corner and it popped in.

Cheers Doug, I may have another go with this one first now that I have got some reassurance it's difficult for everyone.

I'm going to leave it today though and drink some Thatchers
