I’ve repaired the bottom of the A pillar now so onto the deformation panel Both ends have gone but the middles bits fine I have a complete panel what’s best replace the whole panel or cut it up and just use the ends.
I'd be inclined to replace the lot. It will be neater, and you will be able to check and repair behind it before you fit the new one. Oh, you would probably find that the profile of the new one is slightly different to the old one as well, so trying to make the ends butt up to the original bit could be a pita..
As above , if you replace the lot it's going to be solid and one less thing to worry about... Couple of years on and and you'll be glad you took the time to do it properly. Have you checked out the inner panel ?? Sent from my SM-A320FL using Tapatalk
good advice given id do the lot , when off paint both panels before fitting the day before , not an easy panel to remove so use a sharp 8mm drill bit to drill out spot welds , i find the 8 mm spot weld bit heats up or blunts to easy so plenty of wd 40 to cool it , in the end a much better job
New panel is probably thinner as the original is very thick. Add that to any difference in the profile and it'll be a nightmare to line up. Also you'll probably find the inner panel is very rusty and the only way to clean it properly is to take the outer panel off. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
I'm doing the same job right now. Took the old deformation panel off by rough cutting it, and ground back what I could of the old one. I'll need the end panels too - they're about a tenner each at JK. Inner valance is shot at the ends, but replacing the whole thing is probably beyond my skills. How did you repair the bottoms of the A Pillars? I;m not even sure what I'm looking at. Some pics of mine: OSF corner - Bottom of inner valance and end near door/a piller shot. Another view of the same end. Am I looking at the Inner Valance here, or is this the bottom of the A Pillar? NSF a lot better but bottom of Inner Valance has some holes. Will probably patch this Before the photos above. This is my rough cut to get the deformation panel off.
For the A pillar I got the repair panel it’s a bit of a jigsaw but fits well https://www.alanhschofield.com/ourparts/prod_2641940-APost-Repair-Lower-Left-87279-211809201L.html
Here’s the repair I did to ours. I used the schofields repair too. Good fitting piece. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
i would replace the lot if that's bad at the corners the inner centre will be on its way out at least when its removed you can repair/ replace the inner panel and paint it all to death before replacing or if your selling just fill it with mesh vinegar and brown paper it was all the rage in the 80s and 90s make it a revival bus
What @JamesLey said. When mine was done I ended up doing the lot in the end, but pleased I did. As I am keeping it, seemed to make sense and a one time option with the front already off. I use all schofield parts including front valance, deformation and A Pillars
Anyone have any photos of how this repair piece should go? I'll be making a piece up to fix the vertical strip on the A post. Sent from my COL-L29 using Tapatalk
It’s the last bit to go in once you’ve repaired the arch, def panel and front clip. Plug weld it to the def, inner valance and front panel, and then fold the rear edge round the pillar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks David. The angle of the rear tab was puzzling me, but now you say it needs to be bent round it makes sense. Sent from my COL-L29 using Tapatalk
New deformation panel on. No fires. No trips to A&E. Power file on order to get at my ugly plug welds Sent from my COL-L29 using Tapatalk
